Said by Brexiteers like Gove, Farage and Johnson as if they weren't part of the metropolitan elite. Its a con trick.

Bojo was always a part of the "elite" :)

Apart from the general point that an ex-etonian as the PM of the UK is an "elite" figure, BoJo comes from a political "dynasty", with his father being on the european gravy train and his great-grandfather being Minister of the Interior for the Ottomans.

And where have these people worked before politics?
Salt of the Earth jobs like the city for Farage, national press and TV for Gove and Johnson. Gove did at least spend a couple of years working in Scotland (in the media ofc) but scuttled back to London as soon as he could.

Well, naturally. The Tories spent all their time bickering with each other, rather than actually negotiating with the EU. From start to finish, this has been a Tory party fiasco, ably assisted by the tabloids and other assorted celebrities..

    From that link:
"UK Fisheries chief executive Jane Sandell complained that the UK government had failed..."
"She added: "In consequence, there will be no British-caught Arctic cod sold through chippies for our national dish."
"UK Fisheries said it had invested approximately £180m in the last 20 years in the Humberside fishing industry, and had planned to put in a further £100m.

Looking at that £100m planned investments, compared to that average £9m the past 20 years... you would almost assume that they planned huge benefits from getting out of the EU.

Quick google: UK Fisheries Ltd owns Marr Management Ltd which operates the freezer trawler Kirkella and the fresh fish trawler Farnella.

My translation: We bought 2 boats, and we were going to buy another if we could have wangled the quota with the brexit fiasco.

I always like these cut outs.
One ship responsible for 1/12 of chip shop cod in the UK.

    So, from the article:

    Then, the update:

Astonishing. It's losing market quotas by the minute!

There are other fish sold in chip shops than cod. What struck me was that this is a frozen fish vessel, which means that at least 1/12th of cod in chip shops is frozen cod. So they could be using pacific cod, which is much more sustainable.

If we can't even manage to negotiate an equitable arrangement with one of our nearest neighbours (with a population a tenth of ours), how are we expecting to negotiate with countries with no shared links at all?

Boris Johnson surrendered UK fishing rights to the EU so there is nothing to negotiate with the Norwegians.

Did you even read the article? With the UK no longer part of the European Common Fisheries Policy, it now deals directly with Norway - which is not an EU member state - on fishing matters.

Doesn't the law require that fish be blast chilled before being used commercially? Because of Anisakis?

Interesting, I had not heard of that. I have no idea if it required, most of the fish I buy has not been frozen but I guess that is not commercial use.

I'm reading your own food authority article right now. The title talks only of restaurants et sim., but the text suggests fisheries are also required to sanitize the fish.

    EDIT:

When they say "Cooking will kill the parasites" I wonder what they mean? Cooking fish for me is not synonymous with getting it hot all the way through.

This says: "Anisakid larvae can be easily killed by adequate cooking at temperatures > 60°C". I do not always get it to 60°C all the way through.

Yes, I did read the linked articles.

You appear not to understand the wider context.
