This is mainly for Brits. I found to my great surprise that "Bend it like Beckham" a movie made by an Indian origin Brit, Meera Syal was actually no.1 in the U.K. Top Ten for 2 weeks. Prior to this quite a few Bollywood movies to have made a good impression in British Box Offices.

I for one am getting conflicting reports as to why this is so, some say it is no big deal, some carp about it all day long, some say that it is for the worse for Indian cinema:eek: . So I want an Idea from people in Britain as to why this is so??

"Bend It Like Beckham" is a football story and you should never underestimate the power of football in England. On the topic of Indian influence on England, have you seen the TV show "Goodness Gracious Me"? That was a big hit in Britain and was seen as a cultural breakthrough. Also I recently heard that there is going to be a huge festival, I think in Manchester, about something to do with Bollywood. As you can see I have researched this thoroughly. Personally I think that there is more of an acceptance of Bollywood movies in Britain, which has been helped by the releasing of several Bollywood films that are more like Western films.

Bollywood is suddenly the rage here in Canada, too, so I voted (my grandma was a memsahib, so I don't feel too guilty).

Personally, the fascination for me is my Indian woman fetish.

But I digress :D .

Loved that show and in one stroke made "Mind Your Language" politically incorrect and too stereotyped:goodjob: :goodjob:

My favorite bit was why the British royal family was Indian. For the benefit of those who have'nt seen the show, here'e why.
1.All arranged marriages, what else but Indian.

2.Everybody goes into family business, what else but Indian.

3.Son has to listen to what his parents say, what else but Indian,

However, Prince Charles was not an Indian, His ears were too big so he is an African:lol:

"Goodness Gracious Me" is quite funny, as is the other series with Sanjeev Bhaskar, "The Kumars at Number 42"

Could you name some of the Bollywood movies that have come out in Canada, I'm not aware of very many of them...

Thanks

I'm in Toronto, Immortal, so that may explain it. There have been bollywood festivals here, and there's been a couple of pics that have made it to main-screen releases in downtown theatres, including one running right now. Let me run downstairs after a few hours with civ and remind myself of the title.
