Brits leave Basra: Victory or Defeat?

How do you view the pull out from Basra?

  • A success! The Iraqis are ready to provide thier own security, there's no need to stay.

  • A defeat! The brits know they can't win in Basra, they are trying to leave while keeping face.

  • Neither, the british soldiers have done all that they can, and its simply time to move on.

To be fair to Gordon Brown, they have been pulling out of provinces within Iraq for quite some time now. Plus the troops can be used at the invitation of the Iraqi forces, should things get really bad. In a way it will be interesting to see if this curbs the number of attacks in Basra now that foreign troops are out.
