BTS 3.13 - Warlords PBEM unplayable for others

I have been playing in a Warlords PBEM since before BTS came out. When BTS was patched to 2.13 I had to go through an ordeal in order to be able to bypass the protected assests warning.



Same thing happened to the Warlords PBEM after installing the BTS 3.13 patch. I knew what to do to get things working for me, but now the next guy can't do anything with the save.

I have hunted and don't see anybody else having this problem though. Any ideas?
 
The problem is, the BtS 3.13 patch changes assets in Warlords and Vanilla. This behavior is undocumented. Apparently these are not actual changes, but the game sees the assets as different. If I had to guess, this was simply a(nother) mistake on Firaxis' part.

The bottom line is, players without BtS 3.13 have different assets in Warlords and Vanilla as compared to players with BtS and the 3.13 patch installed.

Please, Firaxis, fix this issue. It has totally screwed the multiplayer (esp. PBEM) community.
 
syndicatedragon already explained the problem, now for a solution:
you need to delete or rename (rename is better) the following files:
.../Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Warlords/Assets/CvGameCoreDLL.dll
.../Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Warlords/Assets/XML/GlobalDefines.xml
.../Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Warlords/Assets/XML/Buildings/CIV4BuildingInfos.xml
then reapply the 2.13 patch and your saves should load. If you want to revert to the state the 3.13 patch introduced you'll have to copy the renamed files over the new ones OR reapply the 3.13 patch.
This is one of the not so good things Firaxis did here :gripe:
 
Are the same files affected in Vanilla? Will the same "fix" work?
In Vanilla it is only the .dll (curiously they did not change anything in the warlords xml files, just saved them anew so that the game thinks they have been changed :gripe:) - but otherwise its the same thing (obviously with the 174 patch not the 213 one ;))
