While the general Hall of Fame is an ongoing competition, we like to run time-definite competitions between updates that we call Gauntlets. Standard Hall of Fame rules (*) still apply, but any games meeting the settings will be counted towards the Gauntlet.

(*) Please read the >> HOF rules << BEFORE playing!

Settings:
 • Victory Condition: Diplomatic (though all victory conditions must be enabled)
 • Difficulty: Prince
 • Starting Era: Ancient
 • Map Size: Standard
 • Map Type: Boreal
 • Speed: Normal
 • Civ: Any
 • Opponents: Any
 • Version: 3.03.001
 • Date: 26th August to 9th September 2007
The earliest finish date wins, with score as a tiebreaker.
See BTS Beta-2 for details.

Its fun actually - obviously this is an AP victory goal. So just to give a date:
1100 AD - could have been much earlier, though I doubt that BC is possible, you actually have to find your opponents in order to send a missionary to them and this map is big...
Also: I totally neglected diplomacy, since I thought I'd be able to vote myself into victory but for some reason Gandhi spread the AP religion to all of his cities so that he actually had as many votes as I, even though he never switched to it...

I first went for hatty, but had to abort because there was no land connection to 3 of my opponents and then settled for ramesses - egypt basically because of their UB with two priests running from almost the start you can lightbulb theology extremely early - I had the AP up and running much earlier then I met all the opponents...

Hmmm, now that I have Beyond the Sword, how am I going to have time to do all 3 gauntlets? I haven't even installed BtS yet (even though I've had it for 5 days now) because that frustrating G Minor 25 is taking up all my time.

How long is the wait between when you build the AP and when the election actually occurs? In my second attempt, I got the AP built and a missionary to every civ in 150 B.C. or so, and it is now been over five turns and nothing has come up. ARGHHH!

I've just started this one off. Upgraded to 3.03 in order to play.

My capital and one of my other cities cannot build any buildings (ie they are greyed out in the build queue) only units. Any ideas what is going on here?

EDIT: It appears to be a BtS bug on Boreal maps. Some cities will (randomly) not be able to build buildings. It has been reported (a few times) on the bug thread but no solution for it about. No way am I attempting this gauntlet on the off chance I won't have a problem.

Started a game with Ramesses. Managed to found Judaism, used Oracle to grab Theology, and had a Great Prophet very quickly from an early Obelisk. Used him to build Temple of Solomon. Spread Judaism to Roosevelt enough to get him to convert, right now Saladin's the big gun on the block, founder of Hinduism. Just dropped a great spy on him, 2nd GP from an early Great Wall. Have taken a few cities from barbarians, trying to spam out a few more right now -- Roosevelt built so many cities and spread religion to them that he has more votes than me in AP elections right now! I got a quest to take some land and an iron mine from the Mayans, I think I'll have to give that a whirl to get some more cities under my control.

Here's what I'm not sure about, though: The times that I've built or captured the AP, the option to use it to call for diplomatic victory doesn't always come up. Usually it's along the lines of "stop trading with the infidels" or "stop the war against so-and-so," anyone know the conditions that allow it?

EDIT: I see it now.

Special Note - Diplomatic Victory - this resolution will only be availabe if every civilization in the game is at least a voting member (has the religion in at least 1 city).

This should be interesting, I think there are one or two Civs with no Jewish cities. Time to see who's got open borders...

What exactly does it take for the victory option to come up? I had the AP built in the B.C. years after everyone had gotten one or more cities Hindu. It is now about 700 A.D. and nothing has happened (by now I even have every civ converted to Hindu. I have 5 out of 6 opponents friendly, but I am stuck waiting for the election to come up. What exactly are the required conditions?

AFAIK you need every civ with at least 1 city with that religion AND be the AP head and the option for Diplomatic Victory should come up at the next cycle (a couple of turns - I have no idea how many between voting cycles)... I sure hope this game mechanic is not bugged - since a gauntlet with a bugged maptype AND a bugged game mechanic to shoot for would be a tad unfair :rolleyes:

Damn, we really should check the bug lists before we plan these BTS Gauntlets. Is any one else seeing this problem? If too many are having it, we may have to do something else. :(

If I understand this bug correctly they somehow messed with the the longitude - if you look at the map script it makes these boundaries:
boreal.py said:
def getTopLatitude():
return 95

def getBottomLatitude():
return 70
However for reasons best known to the programmers ALL buildings have a
CIV4BuildingInfos.xml said:
<iMaxLatitude>90</iMaxLatitude>

This means that any city (including AIs - now I know why I was seeing so many missionaries :mischief: ) that lie north of 90° cannot build any buildings, in this map this is the northern 1/7 of the map - if you happen to start there you are screwed - loath as I am to loose my submission I would strongly suggest moving on to another maptype...

How hard would it be to release a new HOF-mod with the correct boreal.py?

The new patch is supposedly complete, it's just under testing. We hate to release a new version only to have to turn around and release another after the patch.

Thanks for putting up a diplo game for this BTS gauntlet :)

For the AP diplomatic victory, there seems to be a set number of turns between when the AP wonder is built and when you first have the option to vote for diplomatic victory. In the marathon games I have played, there is 30 turns between building the AP and having the victory vote.

Of course, you need to have the state religion spread to all other civs in the game too.

Well at least now I know why they can't build buildings, well units and research is enough :).

But I'm also wondering why elections wont trigger. Built that AP pre BC all civs are hindu (and full voting members with multiple cities). All I've got was one vote for open borders/stop trading with X. Now its 1000 AD and there has been like 10 votes who will be in charge of the AP. All civs friendly. ARGH!

What is the trick to pull the vote out... Seems like Ill go for UN soon, should be around 1Kad at least with that :)

:hmm: the interval between votes is 9 turns for AP and 5 for UN - are you playing with barbs on by any chance?
There are two possible problems with the Diplo Vote:
I am not sure if the canDoResolution code proscribes that everyone has to have met everyone (or at least every candidate) and with the AI scouts running in circles this might not have happened and as shown here Barbs can be full members of the UN and maybe there is a bug somewhere that requires them to be Voting Members in the AP as well?

I think your problem may be everyone is Hindu. I recall reading somewhere that the vote requires 3 teams, you'll need two civs to convert to different religions. I've had the vote appear in my game at 680 AD but didn't have enough votes, I'll have to go attack the next highest civ to get the vote count up. :cool:
