Well, I'm back and making civs.:)

    THIS WEEKS CIV:
    THE CHOLAS

What is Civ of the Week?

Civ of the Week is a “project” aiming at bringing you a new, fresh, exotic, and most of all, random, civ every 1-2 weeks, from all corners of the globe, from the Vietnamese to the Mittanni to the Iraqis.
Each civilization features full civilopedia text entires, 1-2 leaders with slightly more unique attitudes (they're not simply a copy of another leader), a UU, a UB, audio, and full graphics.

The purpose of Civ of the Week, then, is two-fold:

    1. To bring you random civs that would probably not have been chosen as civilizations first of all, and to provide a new, more exotic, more interesting experience in choosing civilizations.

    2. To promote more knowledge of lesser-known peoples, cultures, and histories.

    Otherwise, then, enjoy!

Statistics and Information for: THE CHOLAS

    Name: Chola Empire

    Description:
The Cholas were a Tamil dynasty that ruled Southern India until the 13th century. The dynasty originated in the fertile valley of the Kaveri River.

The Cholas were at the height of their power continuously from the later half of the 9th century till the beginning of the 13th centuries. Under Rajaraja Chola I and his son Rajendra Chola I, the dynasty became a military, economic and cultural power in Asia. During the period 1010–1200, the Chola territories stretched from the islands of the Maldives in the south to as far north as the banks of the Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh. Rajaraja Chola conquered peninsular South India, annexed parts of Sri Lanka and occupied the islands of the Maldives. Rajendra Chola sent a victorious expedition to North India that touched the river Ganga and defeated the Pala ruler of Pataliputra, Mahipala. He also successfully invaded kingdoms of the Malay Archipelago.

The power of the Cholas declined around the 12th century with the rise of the Pandyas and the Hoysala, eventually coming to an end towards the end of the 13th century.

The Cholas left a lasting legacy. Their patronage of Tamil literature and their zeal in building temples have resulted in some great works of Tamil literature and architecture. The Chola kings were avid builders and envisioned the temples in their kingdoms not only as places of worship but also as centres of economic activity. They pioneered a centralised form of government and established a disciplined bureaucracy.

I must give all credit to CivGold, however; I simply reused one of their leaderheads for my own purposes.

Alright! Nice to see you back. If you are looking to kickstart WoL again, I'm here for small graphics things. Bit busy with school, World 09, BUG, LHs and everything else, though, so nothing big ;)

Thanks, ck. This is a re-skin of Justinian where I added a hat designed by Amra and re-textured it with a West African pattern I found online.

This would be cool to add to Gold, but we'd need to alter the LH in some way.

Maybe if you replaced his hat with Mehmed or Suleiman's (reskinned of course) and changed his attire he'd look different enough. I'd probably edit the background too.

Thank you all for your comments.

As for the magnificent return of World of Legends, I can not say whether that is entirely possible at this point - certainly plausible, and not impossible, though. I had only gotten a civ CD again, and only begun modding once again, so it may be a while before I try anything.

As for the LH art in and of itself, I was wary of the fact that he didn't look exactly perfectly Indian. However, as my leaderhead art ability is just as limited as the time I have, I was unable to fix up the original CivGold LH that much, other than changing the background to some random picture in Southern India I found. The Capo, if you would like to fix it up for me, that would be great!

Again, thank you all. And yes, I am back.

If that is just a re-skinned justinian (the base at least) I can probably do that for you. It wouldn't take too long, what do you want me to do?

I think all that really needs to be done is to give him a turban of some sort. If you can do that, that'd be great!

You should incorporate this into a Tamil civ and have one of those layer-y Hindu temples as the UB. See attached image.

Yeah, and for another leader, why not pick a notable Tamil Tiger?

You know what I mean :(

The south of India is so incredibly different from the North. We need another civ to represent it.

Although with the way India is represented, I doubt this'll get in Civ Gold any time soon.

Well, it's no big mystery. He just has to ask. :)

With the introduction of the Vedics and the Kushans, the north of India has been well-covered, I think. I certainly don't have a problem with adding the Chola as a southern-focused civ.

A dilemma rises when someone develops a civ already represented by a Friaxis leader (i.e. Maurya Empire). Firaxis ran the gamut with some civs, equating dynastic China to Red China. Ditto for India.

Well, if you want to add the Chola, at least rename them the Tamils.
