I bought BtS today and tried to install it.
Here is how the last 7 hours have gone - a bit funny but not an exaggeration at all.(you can skip right to the bottom if you want to get straight to the question):
1) 1st attempt fails, install claims that Civ4 vanilla 1.0 is not completely installed.
2) 1st attempt to reinstall civ4 1.0 (which i have owned for a year). computer freezes. reboot.
3) repeat step "2" five more times.
4) 7th attempt to reinstall civ4 vanilla. disk 1: success. disk 2: success. disk 3: failure - freeze. reboot system.
5) 8th attempt to reinstall disks 1-3 success. reinserting disk 1, autoplay pops up and cancels installation. uninstalls progress.
6) 9th attempt. all goes well. civ4 vanilla installs successfully.
7) 2nd attempt to install BtS. gets to point where install downloads newest patch. "patch failed to install. ABORTING SETUP!"
8) Civ4 vanilla horsehockys the bed and i have to reinstall. success on 3rd try.
9) I go to 2kgames.com/support to get patch for civ4 manually. download patch. "!!!!Setup incomplete for CIVILIZATION IV!!!! ERROR REPORT!!!! Aborting installation."
10) Civ4 vanilla horsehockys the bed. again. reinstall successful 2nd try.
11) Email 2k support. "Your request has been delivered successfully. We will respond to you within 24 hours. Hopefully you attached you DXDiag to the email!"
12) Rewrite email and question in detail. Attach DXDiag. Resend email. Success.
13) Umptenth attempt to install BtS. "Patch failed installation! Aborting!" Repeat 4 times. :suicide:
14) Go to Civ Fanatics Forums

So it looks like the patch is the current problem because BtS will not install without that patch. Whenever it goes to install it, it ends up saying "Patch failed to install. ABORTING INSTALLATION!"
I meet and go above minimum requirements.
I am not using a bad copy of the game, as far as I know.
I try not to get too many prostitutes on a daily basis...
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!
and what can I do?
buying new parts for my computer is out of the question. returning the game or exchanging it is a last resort.
Civ4 vanilla 1.0 worked flawlessly in the past. what is going on now?
P.S. I do not have Warlords or any patch related to it.
