After 90 turns in the pitboss BTS Multi-Team Demogame II, the teams have finally pieced together the world map. Each team has an England-style starting island, separated from the main continent by a narrow channel.

The six teams played a variety of openings:

  • Philosophical Team Mavericks completed the Pyramids, giving them the most powerful specialists in the world.
  • Imperialistic Team AMAZON used their cheap settlers to build the most cities in the world. And they completed the Great Wall for even more great generals.
  • Financial Team Sirius emphasized commerce, gaining a significant GNP lead over their rivals.
  • Expansive Team Merlot achieved the largest population in the world under the benevolent rule of King Indiansmoke.
  • Viking Team CDZ spammed out fast galleys to keep their cities supplied with bacon, eggs, and spam. Now they have the largest colonial empire in the new world. And spam.
  • Charismatic Team Quatronia emphasized exploration and resource acquisition, following the theory that "he who controls the spice controls the universe". They are now the happiest civilization is the world.

As the available land runs out, the teams are plotting their next moves. Can one team dominate the main continent? Or is it wiser to invade a neighbor's island directly?

Join your favorite team and help them decide!

Hi
I don't often participate here but I thought I'd chip in here. It's kinda interesting to see this "BTS Multi-Team Demogame" thing whatever it is. I tried to figure it out (it's the first time I hear about such a thing). It seems there are several teams that all have a private forum each, so that the team can discuss the best course of action etc and the games are played by e-mail. Would this description be accurate?
What I really meant to say, is that I like the idea that this site would share some of these strange things you guys do here. I read through some of these gauntlet things and other such news items, but honestly I find most confusing and rather hard to get into. The faq stuff reads like a dictionary (sorry :( I know it takes a lot of effort) so it's not very fun to read and it takes a lot of effort to imagine what it must be like to participate. I've read some posts indicating that people appreciate let's play type of previews (like the famous one from Sulla). In the same vein, it would be great to read some kind of reality article on the dynamics of these things you guys organize here. With all the exposure right now it seems like good timing to display some of what makes this place special.
Anyway thanks for sharing the progress of the BTS Multi-Team Demogame. It made me wonder WTH.

As a member of Team Merlot, I can explain that a MTDG is a play by email game featuring multiple teams each democratically deciding their civ's policies for that game through voting on a private sub-forum only that team's members have access to. :p

Merlot doesn't have any of this silly "democracy", being the noble kingdom of lord Indiansmoke, he makes all the decisions.
However, we could always overthrow him and appoint a new monarch if he does too badly.. :mischief:

..Not that I am in anyway implying that our liege has had any failures during his reign.

Please don't exile me! :(

Apart from the fact it is Pitboss and Simul turns :p

Thanks for explaining the dictatorship approach of your team. I hope you don't get exiled over it too. And I don't even know what Pitboss means or how it contradicts what muhammad posted.

You guys throw this jargon around all the time. Guess it's normal being a civ site and all.

Hmm..

I don't completely understand the principles of pitboss either, truth be told. :crazyeye:

Simultaneous turns is worth mentioning, though. It means everyone moves at the same time, rather than in turns for individual civs.

This is really implemented just because it helps speed up the game.

As for the exile.. Don't worry. It won't happen. :p

Indiansmoke is suprisingly tolerant of my continual shows of petty defiance.

At every opportunity to try and overthrow him, i've been the only one to vote to do so, voting for myself or some other team member (without consulting them first).

If he was ever going to exile me, he would have done so LOONG ago.

Pitboss: Daveshack is kindly hosting the pitboss server for this game on one of his computers. The game runs on his computer and all the teams log in to the game over the internet. You don't have to log in in any particular order and in theory all the teams could be logged in at the same time. You have up to 48 hours to make your turn. There are no e-mails involved apart from teams sending messages to each other concerning diplomacy.

The teams all have a very different approach to the game, some work a democracy with elected roles on the team and vote for how they want the game to proceed. Others have a dictatorship or monarchy. Team CDZ is at the other end of the spectrum, we just sort of talk (spam) about it and someone will make the move. If you want to join, I'm sure there will be a team that suits you!
