Ok, i trained a famous engineer and moved him to a friendly city-state to gain bulk gold and influence, only to have the gold but the influence was reversed! ie it went backwards! i think?

I'm also starting to get more crashes (CTD) as the game grows!

ooOOoo

BTW, I'm interested in buying the ancient med pack but there's no pro-mo video to show what's in it!???

You don't actually give your Great People away. If a City State seeks such a person, and you generate one, next turn, you should see a notice 'So-and-So Recognizes your Great Person', along with an increase in influence with that City State.

I think you are referring to a great merchant who can do a trade mission with a city state for money and influence. Never had a problem with that myself, but have not tried it out post patch.

Are you checking the numbers on the city-state menu or just going by the influence bar? If the latter it is possible that you went from neutral with positive influence to friends. When moving from neutral to friends the bar resets to empty at (I think) 30 influence so if you've gone from, say, 25 to 35 influence the bar will actually be less full than it was before. The fact that neutral and friends use the same shade of green for the bar really doesn't help in this situation.
Apologies if you already knew this, just trying to cover all the bases in a single post.

You "trained" a "famous engineer"? You want to buy an "ancient med pack"?

I think you'd better check whether you're playing Civ V first... :p

Hey hey, dont be mean, we have all been beginners at one time. :)

Great merchant can perform a trade mission to any city state. IF a city state request you to get a great person (could be any kind) you only need to get it and keep it for 1 turn and then you should get your influence with the city state, no need to gift it or anything.

And I am not totally sure what you mean with the "ancient med pack", but it could be just a map-pack or a DLC with either babylon or the newer DLC with Inca and Spain

I don't think the 'keep for one turn' part of this statment is entirely accurate. Several times in the past I've got a GS, forgotten that a city-state has asked for one and bulbed it immediately only to get a "City-state recognises your Great Scientist" message on the next turn.

I haven't received this quest since the patch, all the CS's seem to want each other dead. Some things never change.

We have to make sure he used a Great Merchant. It's possible he used a great artist ;)

He got so many things wrong that this really feels like a troll post.

Trained?
Famous?
Engineer instead of Merchant?
Get Influence AND gold?
Ancient med pack?
Pro-mo video to train how to do something?

Yeah, he's fishing for bites imo.

I absolutely love it when someone dares asking such "nooby" questions - it puts our own personal pride & how we evolved into CiV gameplay right where they belong; into proper perspective.
Reply_OnTopic? GM gives you a whole_lotta gold & some bonus cultural influence through clicking the mission button once the Unit is inside the targeted CS territory.

It's not the beginner questions that's the problem, it's the apparent lack of effort the OP put into making his question clear and using the correct terms (which even a beginner should be able to get correct, since they are labelled clearly in the game).

IMO if you want help, at least make the effort to ask properly instead of expecting others to parse through your gibberish.

Sorry guys not trolling just being very lazy about a probable bug.

yes, it was a Great merchant, and one of the options is to move him into a non-enemy city state ZOC to get bulk gold and max influence. i got the gold but not the influence.

another bug i found, building a rail-road to a city state that asked for a road to their city, doesn't WORK! obviously a rail track isn't a road ?? and you cannot build a road once a track is set.

And the ancient med pack I was referring to is - cradle of Civ - mediterranean. Do we get carthage, etruscans etc?

Thanks

I've never encountered such a bug, I think you are making a mistake. We would have to see a save to verify.

Sorry if this has been explained previously but if not then I think I know what you've done.

The Great Engineer you've trained is not supposed to be actually given to the city state. Any bonus from a mission is gotten by purely producing the engineer.

The influence penalty can be explained by the fact that your unit has trespassed in a city state's borders.

Moral of the story: Don't give your great engineers away. Besides, they can build wonders in one turn at home!!
