Says -1 Free Specialist per city in 2nd screen shot.

Does that mean , if i get a free Specialist i get my Resident back ?
Also , i have a free Specialist "Artist".
I thought , i would loose him.
But it`s ok , thanks for clarification! :)

Cool. I didn't know plot workers are reduced to compensate for the -1 free specialist.
That will be a lot of difference in the early game.

I just played 32 turns from a fresh start. I love the balance of techs vs production in the first few turns. Start on a 2C tile with one tile city option, I can coordinate research of Nomadic Lifestyle with building of Alpha Male and Female, where previously I had to queue a brute or two before I can start producing wanderers. I love the new terrain textures too, that was meant to be there but was previously overridden and hidden.

I actually didn't know that's how that would play out either. Interesting.

Thank you for trying the 1 City Tile start.

Was your 1st Tech researched Nomadic Lifestyle Or did you Try Language 1st?

I'm not sure anyone did or does. I just read what the pop up said for that Trait in his screenshot.

I guess you will have to tell us how it turns out.

And I did ask How you got the Military Specialist. But you have not said anything about it, (1st screeshot).

Ups, when did you ask ?
That is a great General , settled on City for +2XP for Military-Units.
But i find the text in the descrepion does not fit with this result.
I mean , 1 loose a resident and i thought specialists are the one not working on tiles....
Any how , Glorius wasn`t a good choise.
Iàm now on turn 1450 or so and have 27 points , while Egypt has over 50.
I could just afford 10 Units , while all other Nations have more than 30.
Egypt recently settled second city , while i am 21 resaerch projects behind....

Have you tried to move a Specialist to a tile in the city screen? You said you have an Artist Specialist.
Also , i have a free Specialist "Artist".

No , maybe i missunderstood the outcome from the Early wonder with the free specialist Artist!
We will see...
Anyhow , i think i start over , i am so far behind....

Edit : yeah , it is +1 Birth Rate Great Artist.

Lookes like i should sleep at night and play on day.... :)

If you are playing Pit's UEM that is normal especially if you are playing it on Deity Difficulty as Pit wants you to do. The challenge is to overcome in the long run. ;)

You can get a free specific specialist and it doesn't get counted into the pool of generalized free specialists. I also didn't think that you'd lose a citizen access if you had a -1 free specialist but I'm not 10000% sure on that. It was my understanding that a negative amount of free specialists just minimums out at 0. Something else could be happening. You might also have one of your citizens 'employed' by something?

No.
One resident is missing.
Which is what happens when one is employed. You'd have to look at your buildings to see if any of them 'employ a citizen'.

I have also seen this happen but don't have an example to share. Only see it very early in the game and sometimes when I build a new city.

The wording with specialists is not always clear. With the two(three?) types of free one gives a specialist below the line (equivalent to settling a GP), another gives you a specialist in the population area that you can't move to work a plot.

City screen would display if any citizens are employed.

Only Coal/Hydro/Nuclear/Oil/Shale/Fusion Power Plant employs any citizens currently.
