Attached below is a map with an favoured starting position, created in order to make a builder game feasible under Deity. 4000 BC start games and some history concerning the map are available in the save files forum. I recommend getting the save files, but those who want to tinker with the map have it here.

Also available in the save file forum is the challenge of starting off the favoured position. That is quite a challenge on Deity, since the AI will be a steamroller.

Here is a picture of the map:

Thanks, this is an excellent map. Quite a challenge on Deity I'm sure. I've only played Monarch and it's still hard. :)

Thank you for your kind words!

I've gotten a few request for starting the games as the Americans, so I guess that's next over at the save games.

Ready-made American save games are now available for download over at the save games forum.

You should have attached a PangeanCaldera.txt file to the map.
This map looked really good, and from the central position, I have to agree it can be a builders dream. I had to restart lots of times to get in the right position with my Egytian civilization, as I didn´t want to play at one of the top two difficulties. I believe I played it at regent, which is usually challenging enough for me. Or did I try Monarch? I´m not sure which of the two I played it at, but it was fun anyway. It was a bit easy to establish and run a much larger civilization than that of my rivals, so I can understand why it would be appropriate for play on the highest difficulties, which I just find too frustrating. I wish you could choose two or more different difficulties so you could play against an AI playing at its very best without crippling your own towns as much as you do on Emperor and Deity.
I never got to complete your map as I made some changes to the rules, but by then I was in full control of the map, so I consider the map won anyway. Hope to see more quality material from you in the future.

I am a builder of empires not really into war mongering at all. What I like is my own peice of land to build up a nice empire on ALONE. Later I build on nearby islands that I end up sharing with other civs. I have yet to see one map allowing you to build your civ without being bothered by another civ right away.
Just a request as I suck at making maps. Could someone come up with a hugh map for around 8 civs for empire builders. I usually edit a map before I play making it possible for me to build a big empire. I know this is a lame way to play :D
This map is a good start toward what myself and maybe a few other diplomatic types out there

A friend of mine has been working on a very symmetrical map with sixteen islands, each with one player spawn.

Each island is exactly the right size for 25 interlocking city radii, and he's marked city start points with cows. Every other city radius square has a resource on it, and the bulk of the squares are bonus grasslands. All city starts have rivers running through them as well. Needless to say it is easy to have size 16 cities without needing a cathedral. It is incredibly easy!

He finds it keeps crashing. I've told him it's due to having two extra islands packed with about 300 barbarian camps and barbarians on 'raging'. His PC just has a hernia...

Anyway once he's got it sorted out I'll upload it.

Cool there are some builders out there. To bad that playing all 16 civs has to many short comings. Mainly only 8 can be displayed at one time making it rather difficult too deal with them all. Extra command keys is silly they all should be on same screen. Not too mention that taking 2-5 minutes per turn is not my idea of fun! I have a fast AMD 1 Gig processor 512 ram, Radeon Video card my computer is not the problem. I feel that playing with more than 8-10 just is boring waiting in the middle and end game "yawn"!
Thanks though looking forward to checking out one designed for builders. I always play on Hugh maps myself. Working on a mod made just for hugh worlds. Peace:crazyeyes
