Building the Roman Empire

So I just tried to build the Roman Empire to it's greatest extent on Viceroy. I couldn't even conquer Carthage. I found I couldn't get high production fast enough or high food production for slavery to train the massive armies of Praetors I needed. I am thinking that perhaps it's better to rush Greece before turning to Carthage. But is there anything I could do to help me gain a large enough army to conquer Babylon, Egypt and Carthage as well as protect those territories?
Oh, and settle Spain and England.

I rushed carthage by just attacking them with my starting pretorians, I was lucky, but that's almost the only way to succeed it.

It was on viceroy, Btw.

Take down the Greeks first with the starting legions. Then sail them (3-4) to Carthage and attack when Carthago is size 2. Those were my starting moves when I recreated the Roman Empire before 200AD. Check here.

Awesome job, but did you also found Christianity?
I intend to found Christianity and build the apostilic palace so when my empire collapses I can be the Papacy.

Christianity was founded in Mediolanum. You can barely see it from the screenshots.

The hardest part for me was building the towns in Britania.
As for taking on Carthage (and mayhap Greece). If you're lucky you usually can rush one of the two, but on the game I won an UHV victory with, the Greeks were already too strong to be rushed and I could only take on Carthage in a war that lasted some turns.
I cannot give more info because I forgot how the game went in details...
