Hi,

when I run Civ 4 BTS, the buttons (on menu and in game) have no outlines, only the words. Also some of them don't work. This obviously makes it very hard to use!

Below is a screenshot of the options screen menu.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

My details:

Civ 4 Gamesplanet Downloaded version, also patch 1.74
BTS D2D Downloaded version 3.1.9.0

Windows XP Pro x64
2Gb RAM
3GHz Core 2 Duo

Yes,

The following applies on my system:

Admin rights
Drivers up-to-date
Patches up-to-date
Anti-aliasing on
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing BTS
The original civ 4 works fine

Also that obviously isn't the options menu (my mistake), it's the first screen seen on starting.

is there a reason that windows is not patched to service pack 3? if not I'd recommend doing that.
also try a newer graphics driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_196.21_whql.html
note that this is the newest stable release there are two newer beta releases as well in case this one doesn't work I'd try those. If it still gives problems one could dig deeper.

No joy with that I'm afraid. XP Pro x64 doesn't have a sp3 apparently. A driver from that site installed correctly, but didn't fix the problem. It's strange because civ4 works fine. I think it might be a dodgy copy so I've contacted direct 2 drive and am awaiting their response.

Thanks for your help.

Ok that didn't work, they say it's not their fault. I believe them having tried a different copy with the same result.

My knowledge on this matter was surpassed long ago. How much deeper is there??

please open
my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini
and set all items with log in their name (5 of the 6 last ones except the last one in that file) from 0 to 1 and save
then start the game and recreate the error, close the game and post all items in
my games\beyond the sword\logs
as a zip file here.

Ori,

thanks again for your help, but I've found a solution of sorts.

That was to delete all downloaded files and installed versions of Civ 4 and use a torrent. I appreciate your help on this matter and it would have good to actually find a solution, but you know, nations needed conquering. The torrent works fine.

I am relatively guilt free as I did pay for the game (twice for BTS) - the product and support the company gave me were just not good enough.

Thanks again,

H
