Does DH's modmod exclude the possibility of doing all of them by restricting you to only 1 aspect?

I think it's a good idea to give G-Prophets a new usage and to force the player to evolve his/her religion through the usage of G-Prophets, currently they are only used for the few Religious-wonders and to join city/invent tech.

Edit: @DH: Then it isn't that much of an evolving religion modmod as a specialized religion modmod....

Sevo's mod does and mine is based on that. Actually it restricts you to one at a time. You can swap between them but the special buildings get destroyed when you change.

I dont know if you have it this way or not, but AFTER you get to Indus Era, you start to get FREE missionaries from the Holy Cities?? Some quite a few at the same time. This also happens to Mech Inf, though these you get in EVERY city when at war???

Cool, I'll start knocking together some background blurbs, artwork ideas, and building and units names for these religions :)

Pastafarianism is in the same vein as Church of the SubGenuis, but has zanier imagery.

I have not seen either of these happen and I have not coded anything that would do it.

    Oprahism Buildings and Units:

    Spoiler :
Sacred Book Club (Temple): typical temple bonus to culture, happiness and, as well as a small bonus to commerce. Allows building of Spiritual Counsellors. Can turn one citizen into priest, one citizen into merchant, and one citizen into artist.

Studio of Harpo (Cathedral): typical cathedral bonuses, plus small reduction in crime rate.

Spiritual Counsellor (Missionary): typical features of missionary unit.

Retreat of the Best Life (Shrine): typical shrine culture and specialist/gpp bonuses; +1 gold, -1 crime in holy city for every city with Oprahism.

    Oprahism Civilopedia Entry:

    Spoiler :
It is difficult to think of any figure from the modern era that had a more profound cultural impact than Oprah Winfrey. Her eponymous talk show, which ran from 1986 to 2011, enriched the lives of tens of millions of people around the world with true stories of triumph against the odds and expert advice on everything from health and finance to relationships and spirituality. Oprah used her show as a platform to teach and inspire, providing viewers with a positive, spiritually uplifting experience by featuring compelling interviews, self-improvement segments, book clubs, and philanthropic forays into world events.

Oprah’s success and contributions are all the more impressive given the difficulties circumstances she had to overcome. As an African-American woman, she belonged to two minorities which had been marginalised throughout modern American history. On top of that, Oprah was born into poverty and was a victim of child sex abuse. Oprah’s astounding successes in the face of these adversities made her one of history’s most widely admired people when she was alive, and after her death many people came to regard Oprah as a superhuman, quasi-divine being. In the late Transhuman era the first Sacred Book Club of Oprahism was founded in Oprah’s home town of Chicago. The first Sacred Book Club was conceived as a place where people could venerate Oprah, learn her wisdom, and discuss the teachings of her talk show.

Oprahism spread rapidly throughout US and around the world, winning over millions of followers or “Fans” with its message of positive thinking, self-improvement, and egalitarianism. The new faith adopted Oprah’s own slogan, “Live Your Best Life”, as its core principle and motto, and its clergy of “Spiritual Counsellors” carefully emulated Oprah’s own clothing and mannerisms. Eventually the growing wealth and popularity Oprahism lead to the development of elaborate centralised places of worship called “Studios of Harpo”, places where Fans could come together to participate in sacred re-enactments of the most important episodes of the Oprah Winfrey Show.

The continued and growing popularity of Oprahism is largely due to the fact that it is a progressively minded, tolerant faith with a healthy respect for individuality. Differing interpretations of the teachings of Oprah are generally accepted, and Fans are free to adopt beliefs from other faiths so long as they do not conflict with the core principles of Oprahism. One particularly striking example of the different interpretations of Oprahism’s teachings amongst Fans is the Oprahist maxim “to help others, one must help oneself; to help oneself, one must help others”: while some Fans take this to mean that self-improvement must come before doing charity, other Fans interpret it to mean that doing charity is an essential part of self-improvement. Both types of Fans are happy to agree to disagree about this, and endeavour to Live Their Best Lives alongside one and other.

The icon for religion, units and buildings need to be 64x64 pixels. TGA format is fine. For the religious icon we need one coloured and another which is silhouette.

You did not mention what technology this would be on after - Mass Media or Globalization?

edit attached is the beginning of this. It does not work and will crash the game if turned on.

    other things still needed

    - icons for the buildings
    - movie for founding the religion and another for building the shrine
    - short sound for playing when unit or building is built
    - graphics for the missionary
    - are there any world or national wonders

Actually it is both. You will evolve your religion from shamans to priests, from forces of nature to gods and pantheons. Initially every nation will have its own belief set. These belief sets will change and evolve. Will ancestor worship be a major part of the state religion or the main form of private belief or will it be a minor aspect of your religion. What burial practices will you have. Will there be sacred animals or plants.

At some stage you may be able to "rename" your religion to one of the named ones in the game. Once you have a named religion you will be able to specify or specialise the way your people express their worship. Any way it is proving way too difficult and requires yet more techs in the tech tree.

Well it would need its own tech on the tech tree like all the other religions do. I am thinking maybe ...

Not currently. I suppose it could be done to add a bool to units and unitcombats that make the unit's loss not count towards war weariness.

Well if we don't give it its own tech then Oprahism whoud be given at an existing tech which we don't want for ANY game religion.

Or are you against having Oprahism as a new religion?

I'm also not very happy about this religion... She might be big in america, but the rest of the world has barely heard of her. I now her name, and I know that she is something like a talkmaster, but that's all. I think there might be better, more "realistic" religions for the future era. Or maybe some from Movies like "The Force" from starwars. I know it's tough to design future religions, but this... :undecide:

Well MrAzure had some ideas for future religions ...

    C2C- Futuristic Religions and Culture

Alpha Centauri also had some interesting religions. Personally I would like to use their factions (minus the alien ones) for some of our civs and cultures.

I also liked the religion on Cloud Atlas. All hail Sonmi-451!
