C3C fails to load

My C3C has a problem: it cant turn on. When I first installed and clicked on it, all that happened was the resolution becoming 640*860, 256-bit with the Program RUNNING on taskmgr.exe while not appearing on the screen. Then after listening to advice, I updated my sound card and video card drivers, and now all I get when clicking on C3C.exe is just a dark flash and then nothing...I am at a loss to explain what is wrong, so plz someone help me.

PC Specs: Windows XP SP2, CPU N270 @ 2.60 GHz, 1 GB Memory, Intel GMA 500 128 MB, 120 GB Hard Drive.

I had a problem like that. Civ3 would not run when it had been running before. Turns out it was the firewall, which had been recently updated. It had turned on the 'I'm Super Smart switch' and somehow determined that Civ3 was bad. Game ran fine once I turned off the switch.

This may not be your problem, but you might want to check on it.
