How do u pros outthere use the new specialists Mil Pol's and Civ Engi's?

I've found CE to be somewhat useful i my severely corrupted cities on another continent to produce improvements, but then again the improvements are not very useful due to the corruption!!! and u cannot use them (CE's) to build units!!!

The MP's is imho too weak in those cities - 5 MP's giving 4 extra shields, a little tax and a little Sci!

What do u think? Am I using them wrong?

Hey - somebody must have tried these guys!!!

How do u use them?

I've tried MP but haven't really seen their benefit. It may be because of the culture bug problem that will be addressed in the new patch.

Now CE, they are helpfull, especially in 1 or 2 shield producing towns.

The main time I use Civil Engineers is mid-late game when I've got a city (usually my capital) at about 20-30 population. I will often convert entertainers to civil engineers just to hurry up a wonder. At this point I will have upwards of 8-12 civil engineers and getting an extra 16-24 corruption free production can take a Wonder build from 20 turns to 14.

Otherwise, I find civil engineers to be mostly a timing thing. Do I need the just discovered Airport in my core cities faster? Do I need to hurry tanks/bomber/carriers? Mostly they cut off a turn of production for each unit.

I found that after conquering a far flung civ where there is little flip risk you can use the people there to grab allthe high food tiles to barely support the populace and put the rest on CE. You can greatly reduce the time to build. You build everything but the cathedral or university and then use that as a prebuild for tanks, etc. Build up 100 shields towards cathedral, switch over and presto, a tank.

Cool - I haven't thought of that way to build units!!

Its almost like there are 4 new specialists now that Tax Collectors and Scientists got a boost in C3C too. I played around with all 4 in my last game and found all of them to be useful. I'll have to really look at the numbers next game and pay attention to how they compare.

I find the taxmen very helpful when starving down the population of a newly captured city. Instead of turning the population into entertainers, I would rather they collect some uncorrupted gold for me as they starve.

I have done this as well, BUT I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to starving down population??? Does it affect other civ's opinions, or tend to increase unhappiness in other cities?

I don't think so - this game is not for moralists ;-)

CE's are quite usefull in corrupt cities that need a court/duct: Policemen, however can be used even in cities that have only few corruption: once they become available, I usually have factories/powerplants in these cities. When irrigating a tile to be able to feed a policeman, I practically convert four shields into two shields and two gold...which is quite usefull for cities that have excess shields (i.e. a city with 55 shields building Infantry).

U lost me there phizuol - what are the use for cops in a city with no corruption?

Yeah okay - but not much! Unless corruption gets worse on higher levels (deity and Sid - which haven't tried yet)!
