I've not talked to Spartaca about this, but the Minor Axis are about ready to offer their unconditional surrender rather than watch our cities be smashed and capture one by one.

While I've been able to compete with the Allies in troop numbers, and thus hold off various invasions, I've constantly been lagging behind in troop quality (if I picked my research path badly or if it's a scenario balance issue, I'm not certain, but I think it's probably a bit of both).

The entire scenario I've never really felt like I've had the opportunity participate in the attack, and now that Germany is in trouble and I look at the Allied forces moving through western Europe, I'm not sure I can do much to even delay them from outside the safety of my own cities.

Congratulations and very well done Drendor for sticking in there, I know you thought you were about done before.

What do you think Spartaca, did you want to continue slugging it out? If that's the case I'd probably rather hand over the password and bow out now.

Cheers both of you. :hatsoff:

It really was an intresting and exciting scenario we played and at one point when Germany seemed unstoppable I thought my side would loose for sure.

I dont know for sure what tipped the balance in favor of the allies. I do know that Spartaca played almost flawless most of the time. And Botman was really cunning and evil killing french and brits in the med as never seen before.
Those SS-units combined with Transportplanes got really ugly for a while.

Here are some thoughts from my part of victories or aspects that might have changed the course of the war:

* The combined production of Allies and Russia seemed to far outweigh the production of the Axis. CW lost alot of troops due to premature offensives in both Western Europe and N africa but was still able to come back in force.
Maybe one should lower or remove the resistence in the cities that are occupied by Axis forces? This would greatly increase the axis production.

* Loss of the major part of Luftwaffe in Russia. This really crippled Germany.

*Loss of good german paratroopers in the middle east. This was a really good plan by Germany that almost came to bare fruit but thx to Luthor of Russia we discovered the evil plot and turned our middle east forces back towards the new threat.

* Economic help from the U.S. I dont know if this is overpowered but CW was really rich and didnt hesitate to share her wealth with Russia.
Maybe 1 should decrease the spawnrate of those american lorries?

All in all it was great fun and a great thanks to Luthor,Aksully,Botman and Spartaca!

Good write up, and yup, I agree on all accounts. The resistance in occupied cities was crippling I thought. It meant all you gained by capturing a city was denying your opponent a production source, but added nothing to your own forces.

Congrats again. :p

Drendor: I'm prepared to concede as well. Germany could last quite a bit longer but you will slowly crush it and there is not much it can do to stop you. I was surprised that Luthor quit thinking it was hopeless when in fact Russia and the Allies had the upper hand in terms of economy and ability to strike back once Germany's initial attack had exhausted itself. Good job Drendor in taking over and beating us!

A few thoughts on the game.

I was sending a large force through Turkey (which was kind enough to offer Germany right of passage) to the middle east in the hopes of capturing the oilfields there and in SE Russia. If I had succeeded in this, the game might have been over. Luthor bombed Turkey's roads which stopped our trucks and in the end I only got a few engineers through to build an airfield and fly in some troops. The delay of about 5 turns in getting there took away the element of surprise and allowed the CW to get troops in place to counterattack. My lack of mobile units in the area also made it difficult to put up much of an attack.

Germany is in a golden age at the start of the game for 13 turns. With its technology advantage it produced lots of superior forces and went on a great offensive. But on turn 14, the golden age ended and my economy was reduced to almost zero. I was only able to build a good unit every 3 or 4 turns so basically I was stuck with the troops I had at that point. That means that everything I lost was not replaceable. So while I still continued my conquest with my existing troops, I was getting weaker and weaker every turn until I had almost nothing left. So while Germany may have appeared strong, it had no reserves left.

The other thing is that all the cities Germany captured remained in revolt during the whole game. No matter how many troops I stationed in them, not a single citizen ceased revolting. So the captured cities were of no benefit at all to Germany's economy. This was a little frustrating.

All in all it was a good fun game (especially the beginning).

It's interesting to see how the game developed... so close to reality.

First the Axis took a strong offensive and they seemed unstoppable. But then the much higher CW production (which was to simulate really the US production capability) made the game to turn around and the Allies were able get the upper hand... the only difference is that Germany did not fight to the very last man.
