C3C PBEM : Zero- WWII pacific scenario

The black screen is the 1.20 bug.

Commonwealth doesn't have much to report, except that they have stopped the Japs in Indo-China. No cities have been taken and reinforcements are now in all those cities. And the tank army that was threatening Mandalay on the western side of the map has retreated. We also bombed a battleship in the South China Sea to 1 hp. But in negative news, we spotted a transport south of Tarawa with a submarine escort. We attacked the transport but lost our ship in the process. If any of my allies has a ship in the area and can destroy that transport, I would appreciate it.

Eeek! That was downright rude. The residents of Sarmi were kicking back with their Pineapple juice and Papayas during tea time when a passing Japanese Cruiser, (the Kumano) shelled their Rubber plantations! (Good thing I have 5 more!) It appears to be heading on towards Rabaul. The good news is that the members of the submarine SS K-XVIII wish to report the first succesful blow of the war by the Dutch. The sinking of a Japanese Destroyer North of Sarmi. (It sank too fast, so they couldn't catch the name of the ship) ;)

The laid-back residents of the Netherlands wish to thank their allies for their kind assistance in matters of resource freebies. :goodjob:

  (very laid-back)

Strangely enough, I also get a black screen at the beginning now and cannot see the city I'm asked to agree to build something for ...until I override the question of what to build, etc.

REPORT:
The Chinese front is not too hectic at the moment. My artillery and guerrillas are destroying the communications system of the Japanese so as to slow their advance.
There is some artillery activity near a couple of cities, but no great Japanese offensive or air attacks detected so far. We continue our impressive build up which may allow us to take Tokio soon...

Well, I hope the Japanese will learn what happens to uninvited guests who behave rudely and overstay their welcome. The Cruiser Kumano was sunk with all hands lost by the Destroyer DD Van Nes. The speedy small ship with large courage made good its escape from reprisals (hopefully). Local residents have noticed with dismay that the US Protectorate town of Davao was lost to the Japanese, and local residents of Menado, Donggala, Tenate, and Manokwari are bracing for the worst as units are rushed to the front to fend off Amphibious and Airborne attacks that are sure to come soon.

Ya, I saw that Davao was captured and meant to say something about it. I put a serious pounding on Davao with some airplanes in the area but didn't have any land units that could capture it. I was hoping somebody had some transports nearby to re-capture it.

From the USA War Department: Quote "Whoops, forgot to mention Davao in the southern Phillipines. Yeah, our heroic troops were finally defeated after inflicting heavy casualties (survivors report one airborne unit was completely destroyed)."

The Pentagon has not yet confirmed the destruction of the airborne unit.

It is now 4:05 GMT on 19 May and I still have not received a file. That would imply that the 24 hr rule has been violated.

I'm truly sorry for the sinking of the USA fleet, they were mooning at us so we had a nice round target to hit...

Our imperial forces are almost prepared to invade the capital of china, be warned!

March, 1942, USA War Department:
We regret to inform you that your son on the CA Chicago, or the DD Whipple, or the DD Dewey, or the DD Shaw, or the SS Thresher was killed in action...

To the Japanese: :goodjob:

Yes, it was a sad month for the US Navy as multiple sea actions have cause damage to its lighter fleet ships.

On the Phillipine front General MacArthur reports that the heroic troops in Corregidor successfully repulsed a combined arms attack from Imperial Japanese troops. The Imperial 4th Tank Regiment was no where to be found, while the 6th Infantry, SNLF Marines, 48th Infantry and Yokosuka SNL Marines suffered heavy casualties inflicting only minor damage to MacArthur's forces. "Send more Band-Aids", MacArthur quipped. "These guys have started giving us some nasty paper cuts! We got so bored we started shooting at the CA Mikuma."

The Imperial Fleet has moved southwest from its position near Pearl Harbor. By now, they must have realized that our citizens will fight to the end. It was in this fleet action that most of the US casualties occurred. The Japs are still bombing Pearl Harbor, but our valiant Flak brigades are taking a heavy toll.

Reports have come in that the Jap Destroyer Urakaze was sunk in the Hawaii action and that the CA Tone and the CV Akagi were badly (not!) damaged.

The captain of the BB Pensylvania was promoted to Admiral for heroic actions taken against the enemy.

BTW--to our allies, one Paratrooper is redlined holding Davao, anyone who can do something about this, now is the time.

The US Navy vows revenge for their fallen (or sunken as the case may be) comrades and warns the Japanese that the day of their doom approaches!

p.s. sorry Pirke, not trying to be a hard**s, just didn't know where you were or what was going on.

GL all (except Pirke :D :D )

This was a good month for the Commonwealth. Unfortunately we didn't find the Japanese transport that was south of Tarawa, and we could'nt recapture the city of Davao for the USA, but we did make progress on other fronts. We are proud to report that we have killed 3 Japanese paratroopers by the city of Kuala Lumpur on the Indo-China peninsular. Those poor b@stards were left out there with no support whatsoever. We are pretty sure the Japanese minister of advanced airborne warfare is impaling himself on his sword right now. In addition, we have noticed that the Japanese are mounting on offensive on the city just to the north called Bhuket. The Japanese have massed a force consisting of 2 tanks, 1 engineer, and 2 infantry units. Unfortunately for the Japanese, one of the tanks was bombed down to only 2 hitpoints. Plus, I was able to station a MG battalion in the city. The Japanese will be able to see the MG battalion so that's no secret. But what they can't see is what is underneath that MG battalion. Needless to say, Bhuket will not fall to the Japanese this turn. We have also noticed the Japanese push up the west edge of the map has halted and their forces have withdrawn  Using this opportunity, I have begun moving my forces south to recapture the city of Rangoon that fell on the first turn of the war when the dirty Japs sneak attacked me. And finally, we were able to bomb one of the two destroyers in China bay down to 2 hitpoints.

To the Japanese Imperial Commander of all armed forces:
I once again offer you my hand in peace. However, my demands have now risen. In addition to the four cities I requested in exchange, I now require the city of Hanoi. I thought about asking for Rangoon but that city will be mine shortly anyway. I strenously urge you to consider my proposal as it would be best for your nation.

DogBoy of the Commonwealth,
Supreme Commander of "Her Majesty's Forces"

News of China
-------------
Glups! Looks like finally the japanese army has mounted a major offensive by land. In effect, several large concentrations of troops have been detected on the front and are being bombarded heavily by air and artillery, but I'm afraid that this means that for now our turist trip to Tokio will have to wait.

Can any of the allies give me any technologies or anything? How about some volunteer troops sometime in the near future, or airplanes?

Not much to report from the Dutch. Garrisoning of all of our originally nearly defenseless cities is almost complete. Maybe in another few months some Offensive operations could actually be considered!

The Japanese people found another city full with Chinese women, but where did all the men and children go?

Anyway, the memorial services for the lost Japanese schoolchildren were held, the armies were required to walk a parade there, but as soon as it was finished they went back to the front.

Meanwhile in the pacific it's been a happy month, sinking 2 destroyers and a carrier south of honolulu. They couldn't escape the wraith of our imperial empire!

The rest of the Japanese intelligence is strictly confidential.

:scan: :scan: :scan:

US War Department, April, 1942: The Navy reports that an ancient oil rig was being towed to its final destination by a Greenpeace vessel (the Worden) when Japanese destroyers attacked the scrap. "It would be ok if they only hit the oil rig," the shaken commander of the Worden said, "but why did they have to sink our research ship?" When asked for confirmation, the Pentagon simply replied, "Plllttttsssssss!"

In other news, the cowardly Japanese Yokosuka SNL Marine Division was reportedly "running with their tails between their legs," a jubilant General Douglas MacArthur told AP. "We have taken up target practice on one of the Jap battleships, the Haruno so I'm told. To our Japanese enemy we say, please keep your ships available, our artillery folks need the practice!"

The Navy reported some minor skirmishes elsewhere in the Pacific with good results. "They're losing their fleet piece by piece," Admiral Chester Nimitz replied from his new headquarters in Hilo. "Pretty soon our battleship fleet will be ready to sail (probably 2 turns or so) and then we will bomb the Japanese islands into the stone age!"

A jubilant President Rcoutme quipped, "Our people are getting souped up for the most massive military production undertaking ever! We will obliterate Japan by building more bombers, fighters, ships and ground troops than the world has ever seen!"

Player note: the file has been sent on to Dogboy by email. I have no idea :crazyeye: how to attach files to this thread, but since I have sent the email, it probably doesn't matter.

It was another good month for the Commonwealth. The Japanese attack on the city of Bhuket on the Indo-China pensisular failed. (I warned them not to attack and the think-headed Japs persisted). Bhuket saw many a good soldier die but it held. In fact, it was down to one defender with only 1 hp left! Have no fear, as I was able to rush more defenders into the city. There is no way he can capture the city as I now have more defenders in the city than he has attackers. I'm sure he will try anyway, and he will fail all the same. The Commonwealth was also able to sink a Japanese destroyer in the China sea, and my battleship was able to retreat to safety so it cannot be counterattacked. And in a tit-for-tat exchange, the Japanese bombed my only oil source so I repaid them by bombing their only oil source just outside the city of Saigon. That's ok as I have easy access to other oil sources but the Japanese don't.

On a negative note, my advance down the western side of the map will not commence. The Japanese obviously don't want me to attack as they moved their tank army, 2 engineers, 1 marine, and 1 infantry to block me. I simply retreated my units and bombed them with artillery. Perhaps the Japanese are foolish enough to try another advance and attack me? I hope so because I have a lot of defenders waiting for them.

To the emperor of Japan:

Once again I come to you with a peace treaty. However, the demands are even higher now. In addition to the five cities I previously demanded, I now require 500 gold to give to the families of the soldiers you killed in Bhuket. The greiving widows are demanding compensation for their husbands and sons I will pay them. Either with the Japanese Yen or with Japanese blood. The choice is yours.

New from China
--------------
After a heroic defense, Nanning collapsed to the superior forces of the Japanese and now is in their hands. I TAKE IT THAT WE ARE APPLYING THE NO DESTRUCTION OF CITIES IN THIS SCENARIO (?), since there are no settlers.

Now we have detected a massive army approaching our city of Hankow, to the North of Free China. Fortunately we have had time to build an impressive defence force to face such a threat, although the Japanese are quite strong and don't know if we will hold longer than a month...

Thanks for everybodys support, which is allowing us to build new armies much faster than the Japanese can destroy ours or replace his, which surely will guarantee our final victory over the aggressor.

PS: PIRKE, by the way, you are being requried at another place for the continuation of the Small Tracker Game...

The Dutch continue their call to arms, with more draftees being trained into Infantry and MG brigades for home defense. In addition, a daring (secret) project was imbarked upon. In response to raids on our Oilfields, units have been dispatched to protect these valuable facilities at whatever the cost.
Not only is the military calling for bodies though, but the civilian infrastructure as well is desperately in need of upgrades to help sustain the war effort and repair bomb damage.
In response to a desperate plea from the kind Commonwealth, a massive Oil shipment was dispatched to them happily, as they gave Coal and Iron to us in our time of need. The Allies are holding firm!
(Game forwarded on to Pirke)

May, 1942: US War Department: To Senate Armed Services Commitee
The Japanese radio has been surprisingly quiet about their military. Earlier in the war, the Imperial High Command seem to rejoice in boasting about its victories. The CA Kuma has been spotted north of Davao. The DD Yugure and CA Mikuma have been spotted east of Kudat, possibly heading toward Sangkoelirang. The carrier fleet formerly bombing Hawaii has moved west.

Confirmed: Major battle east of Hilo. Friendly losses include Carrier Saratoga, Heavy Cruiser Juneau, Destroyer Paul Jones. The carrier was empty of aircraft which had already redeployed to land bases.

Enemy losses: Heavy Cruisers Tone, Abukama, Chikuma all sunk. West of Hawaii Destroyer Tanikaze sunk.

Additional action: Japanese have landed a large force on Wake island. Defenders are fighting firm, however the First Defense Battalion was lost to the initial wave of marines. The Battleship Haruna was sunk just south of Puerto Princess.
=============================================================================================
AP press release from Pentagon: "Our forces have forced the enemy to retreat from Manilla. A large battle has been reported east of Hawaii. The folks are told not to worry, no Japanese ships remain anywhere near Hawaii, all those that went east were sunk.

Wake island defenders report that a large fleet is still parked outside their doorstep and the Jap marines have gained a foothold on the island. The enemy is taking a fierce pounding by our guys, with artillery taking an especially high toll."
To the Japanese:
