Call to action: Join the Bunka clan in Children of the Emperor: Civ V stories

As a member of the bunka clan in the odd and extremely interesting game/competition/story Yahzuk has set up in the stories and tales section.


I come here for two purposes.

1: Advice on gaining a cultural victory in Civ V (can;t let the other evil clans from winning)

2: Put the call out there for people interested in cultural victories to join the Bunka clan.

As to part One

Is there any way to get a cultural victory with minimal wonders, thinking out loud the possibilities are that unless wonders are mutually beneficial we may be blocked from building them, which may be problematic- Do people here have any strategies for getting a cultural victory without many wonders, or with wonders but ones that arent specifically cultural?

As to Part two

Id advise everyone to check out Yahzuk's children of the emperor thread in the stories and tales section. It is extremely interesting and entertaining, with poets, shakuhachi;s and assasinations galore.

If you don;t want to join the Bunka clan than at least consider joining one of the other clans. Its great fun not just in contributing to discussion, but the backdoor dealing and politics is entertaining as well. Its sort of like a team game against other teams within the one civilisation.

You're going to have a hard time winning cultural without wonders. Sistine Chapel and Cristo Redentor are pretty much mandatory. Himeji Castle is dual purpose and kinda helpful to cultural (it gives a +4 boost), but those other two are only really helpful for culture. Social policies can be important even if you're not going for a cultural victory, though, so could make the argument that they are really helpful whatever the situation.

Need to go all out military and mass puppet to leverage HCastle for mass culture output

How so? It's a good compromise wonder for a cultural victory, in that it allows you to turtle and gives you that +4 boost (so it's as good as two maintenance free monuments).

Yes, it lets you turtle, but a little wasted only for +4 culture per turn, it's alot of hammers for the wonder.

HCastle actually excel in offensive war as well. As soon as you capture the 1st enemy city, the warring bonus within culture border is in effect. Making the opponent's reinforcement basically useless. With good preWar scouting, can move in as soon as reinforcement is taken care of, cities will be left defenseless. Mass puppet these, and they all build their own monuments/culture buildings...which will be > +4 culture per turn by the time you hit 16th and Cristo.

one possible gambit:
- tech beeline early metal casting after hooking up lux
- build early Workshop @ largest city; assign Engineering specialist asap
- tech military: steel, prepare army
- tech Chiv: rush HCastle with GE, the turn player DOW on target.

(In my science game, the Iroquois neighbour built HCastle for me to take, where I leveraged it as described...
doing write ups now, but more details will be online later after the weekend for ppl to read).

I was loking at Himeji Castle to build eventually, for it is a rightfully Japanese wonder that cannot fall into the tentacles of the enemy.

Yes so reasonable, don't i recall that the basis behind the filthy Kagaku labrats is something to the effect of.

"Kagaku cared nothing of this world and dreamed only of touching the stars"

Now as you and i are aware teh kagaku no nothing of metaphor being literal minded scientific types, so with this in mind it is obvious that your sole "scientific and reasonable goal" is to literally touch the stars with that space vessel you dream of.

I look forward to seeing you as a bunch of superheated plasma in the photosphere of a star one day grandad1984:lol:

Who is this Sam you speak of, I am unaware of this "Sam". There is no substitute for the inscrutable UNCLE BUNKA

(Im australian so no Uncle Sam for me:p)
