Calling All Unit Makers: Phoenix Unit

Also, if you want, there´s a phoenix in Warcraft III. Perhaps you could cnvert it...

Bad idea. You'd have Blizzard pursue legal action against you. They're extremely protective about their stuff.

First of all: how would they find out? Second: How would they be able to sue me? The only thing they can do to me is spam me to death...

Blizzard is extremely aggressive in protecting their content. Numerous modders for other games attempting to use Blizzard content were somehow found out and slapped with cease-and-desist orders along with some hefty warnings.

If you read some of the legal documentation that come with Blizzard games, there are some lines in the documents that forbid the useage of Blizzard content without the consent of the company.

A while ago, an attempt to create a WarCraft mod for some other game (forgot which...) using graphics made by Blizzard was forcibly shut down by Blizzard Entertainment. You can make mods based on WarCraft and Diablo (there was a "Diablo" mod for NeverWinter Nights), but you cannot use original Blizzard content. At least, that is my understanding of how they handle things.

The line is very blurry. Sometimes they will be fiercely defensive about their content, other times, they'll be a little slack in enforcing their policies. It's better not to take the risk...unless you have a legion of lawyers to back you up. ;)

Or, I live 10000 miles from the USA in a lawless country, I´m inimputable, and there´s no reason why they should find out if i do it quietly, and then post the converted animations anonimously, with a user created for the occasion, and not sayiong how I made them?
Alternatively, when I learn enough about unit-making that I resemble kinboat, i could copy them myself.

Yeah, because it's totally worth it to break the law and work extremely hard to find a new method to convert such a "high-poly", "inspired" unit from such a "beautiful" game, when an alternative is already made, and there are so many better models out there.

They might not be able to do anything to you, but you can bet your bottom they'd make CFC stop hosting the conversion.

Even if you do get away...but it's very unlikely, though, you would not be off the hook, because someone would be watching you do it and you would have to meet him someday...
So converting a Blizzard unit is in no way smart.

Why don't we just stick to Snakelover's excellent Pheonix conversion. :)

Where do you live?

The only mystical Romanian ever was Hagi... and after him, their team lost their charm :p
I live in Argentina where high-quality pirated software can be bought for U$S1,66 on the streets, and there´s virtually no law n sftware and intellectual protection, since all the loopholes get together and make a big loopghole.

Yea, i'd remove that last part before a mod sees it. That kind of stuff is not allowed here.

And my mystic powers are beyond Hagi's since he couldn't foretell your location. :D

Obviously since you the authorities don't care, you can break the law! I get it now.

There is a tiny bit of law here, but it´s not enforce dregarding intellectual property! [party]

If I copy a CD and then convert protected gfx into other games, I´m not breaking any law, at least here in Argentina, and it´s completely legal to upload it online and let others download it.
