Can Mahabodhi Temple revive a dead religion?

So, I've been doing a Let's Play of Civ6 as Saladin (check that out here).

I founded a religion but didn't pay much mind to it, so it eventually just...went away. That didn't bother me too much, and I kept playing, as you can see in episodes uploaded at 3 PM sharp on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

However, and this is a minor spoiler for parts which haven't come out yet, I started an experiment to see if the apostles provided by the Hagia Sofia would be of my then-gone religion. Unfortunately for the experiment, I was beaten to the wonder. As such, I turn to you, people of Civfanatics, in search of answers.

If I found a religion, but the religion is eliminated from every city in the game, and then I build the Hagia Sofia, will it provide apostles to revive my religion with? I'm legitimately curious now and would like to have the answer for the four people who watch my videos and might wonder that as well.

And then I remembered that it's the Mahabodhi Temple which provides you with Apostles, not the Hagia Sofia. That was a dumb, my bad. So, now the question is:
If I found a religion, but the religion is eliminated from every city in the game, and then I build the Mahabodhi Temple, will the apostles it provides be able of the religion I founded?

I'm not 100% sure, but my guess is that it'll give you apostles of whatever your religion is in the city that built the wonder.

...crap, right, because the Hagia Sofia doesn't actually give you any units. I'm confusing it with the Mahabodhi Temple. My bad.

Mahabodhi Temple will give you two apostles of your original religion, which, yes, can be used to revive your religion. But to avoid your religion being overwhelmed again, you should make sure that you have a temple in whichever city you choose to reconvert to your religion and enough faith to buy more apostles and inquisitors to purge your other cities of infidel religions that have infected your cities.

Mahabodhi Temple seems to be quite high on the AI's bucket list though.
