It always amazes me reading tens, no hunderds of arguments of anybody and never read anywhere he even doubts he may be wrong. Have you ever admitted in the Off-topic forum that you were wrong? If possible: where?

Yes, a number of times, and yes, in public in general too. In fact, in real life, it is even a good tactic of winning a debate, but that's too complicated to be useful most of the time. :) Anyway, I don't think it would work on the Internet, but I've admitted that I'm wrong here too, why not?

I'm sure I have somewhere. Maybe back in 2003.

Yeah, a few times. I think I said so in not so many words in my 2038 thread.

I generally qualify unsure statements with stuff like "I think" or "don't trust me on it", though so it's not necessary when I am proven wrong.

Then sometimes I just don't bother if I don't care that much.

I can, but people usually start trying to rub it in my face that I'm wrong and that they're right.

*shrug*

heck, I am wrong so often I have been forced to admit to it... irl... as far as forums go, meh, it depends I am afraid -.-

That's what happens to me too

It's one thing to say "Ok, fine, you're right". Another thing is "HAH, SEE, I TOLDZ YA!1!ONE!1"

I agree, admitting that at least part of your argument is wrong is a good tactic. It allows you to reposition your point to reach a consensus.

Also admitting that you are wrong is vital otherwise you could sound unreasonable which is way worse than just being wrong and admitting.

I learned this tactic by playing poker.

I'll admit I'm wrong a lot. I'm wrong a lot, anyway.

And what better way to win an argument than to concede that you are wrong before letting your opponent get all riled up in his or her amazing roll of repeated points?

Plenty of places. Usually it's just some small detail (the main gist of my argument is almost always right :)).

I always admit it. I am just usually not wrong.

I generally have no trouble with it. What does cause me trouble IRL is when I decide that, while I am not convinced I am wrong, I'm willing to go with the other person's method for the time being. No one ever seems to be OK with this. They want me to tell them they are right and refuse to be satisfied with "I still think my way is better but lets do it your way so we can stop arguing".
