Time for some history, Canuck style. :)

1) What was the first Canadian ship sunk during the war?

2a) What Canadian squadron fought in the Battle of Britain?
2b) Who was it's famous commander?

3) This top scoring Canadian ace was sometimes referred to as "Screwball".

4) After the massacre of 35 Canadian prisoners, members of the Canadian 3rd Infantry division and this infamous German division followed a strict "no prisoners" policy.

5) This skilled Canadian general developed what may have been the first armoured personnel carriers.

6) This division was given the nickname "The Water Rats" after the Scheldt campaign.

7) The Canadians suffered supply problems during the Scheldt due to the needs of this more famous operation.

8) This unit exacted some revenge as it was the first to finally liberate Dieppe.

9) This battle is sometimes referred to as "The Canadian Stalingrad".

10) How many Canadians won the Victoria Cross in WW2?

Bonus question

11) How many Canadian Peacekeepers have died in the cause of peace since WW2?

Well, here are the answers:

1) HMCS Lewis, a corvette, sunk on Sept 19, 1941.

2) This was 242 squadron. Douglas Bader took command after the squadron returned from France.

3) Buzz Buerling, a 35 kill ace fought mostly over Malta.

4) The 3rd Canadian division and the 12th SS "HitlerJugend" division faced off in Normandy. 35 Canadian prisoners were massacred during the fighting and, for a while, the Canadians would take no SS prisoners.

5) Guy Simonds came up the the idea of the APC by using turretless Shermans. These were called Kangaroos.

6) The 3rd Canadian division was given the nickname by Montgomery. The Scheldt was fought in land almost entirely under sea level.

7) Operation Market-Garden denied supplies to the Canadians in their efforts to clear the Scheldt.

8) The 2nd Canadian division entered Dieppe on Sept 1, 1944. The Canadians had been assigned to clear the Channel ports to support the advancing Allied armies.

9) The battle of Ortona, in Italy is oftened referred to by this name.

10) 16

11) 104.

I can go into more detail later.

Merry Christmas. :)
