How much do you use disposable units to protect your veteran ones? I find that citybusting is especially difficult without throwing in a few good men to "soften them up." What good is a lvl 3 City Attack if it only nets me a 30% chance of victory (vs City Defend, Archer, etc).

I feel silly only sending vets out for easy kills, but I guess that's life: grunts through the grinder, opening the way.

It makes sense to me to use disposable units in order to protect the vets, because you will have to use less disposables in general because the vets can trounce on the defender earlier than if you were just throwing non-vets at it. Of course the best disposable units are collateral damage, because you get the extra bonus of damaging the rest of the stack too. Suiciding is what 'pults do best! :hammer2:

The best thing to use are artillery units that are usually cheap to build and can inflict some collateral damage.

I use newly-built siege for the first wave of attacks. Then follow with veteran sieges that somehow survived previous battles.

Then I think about how I can maximize promotions. Anybody who needs only one XP to be promoted, I save for the weakest units, as they're likely to get only one XP.

I don't have much to say about the topic (cannons ftw!), but this chain of scientific avatars needed to stop

how's this one?

on topic tho, i do tend to favor my vets. particularly city raiders that i hope someday will be gunpowder city raiders. i count how many units are in the city and if there are less than i need for everyone i want promotions for i pout. i do not get sentimental with catapults, but if they retreat and get exp i do cheer.
