cannot install 1.52 patch

I got the game via Digital Download. Installed in fine. Ofcourse I get the 'Cannot initialize' error.

the fix, to install the latest patch. Well, I dloaded the patch and when I try to install it I get:
'The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed.
This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.'

ok, well I can see that Civ 4 is in fact installed. I also cannot find any previous patches to fix this problem.
Any help?

note: I tried the uninstall game, dxdiag, drivers and reinstall thing. This did nothing.

Do you mean you got the game from D2D? If so, you need to get the patch from D2D as well.

yeah I grabbed the D2D file. But it hangs at the very end of the patch. Now when I log in to the game I get 'cannot display yur video settings...'

I've edited my config file to 720x1280 (large LCD monitor) but it still tries to load it at 1024.

This game is getting very frustrating.

I don't have a D2D version, so that makes it hard for me to troubleshoot.

I would suggest, however, that you reinstall the original config file so that the patch can find what it's looking for (if it is indeed looking for that).

Otherwise, I would suggest you continue scanning the tech support threads, and maybe someone with more knowledge about the D2D game will be able to help you out.

Does D2D itself provide any sort of tech support to those who use the service? They should...

I hope you can get it working. I suffered a few setbacks when first setting up CivIV, put now I've got it going, I love it. So don't give up!

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. I have the D2D game as well, can't load the 1.52 patch.

Same message:

That error is usually fixed by downloading the patch directly from D2D here: http://www.direct2drive.com/patches/index.aspx
