Can't get Civ 4 to run

I bought Civ 4 yesterday. It installed alright, but it doesn't run correctly. When I start the game the screen goes blue. Not a Windows bsod. I have to hit enter to get anything else. When I hit enter I see a planet and Civ 4 header, but that's it. No menu at all. I did push enter and got to what I think is a tutorial. But there wasn't any kind of menu or interface at all. I tried using the hotkeys and they didn't work.

I have a 1.8 gig athlon, 1 gig of ram, an MSI Geforce FX 5700 with 256 megs of ram. And running XP of course. I think thats everything. Please help if you can. Thanks

try installing drivers and new DirectX, windows updates and the like.
