Can't install Colonization due to previous installation in the past

So a while ago I borrowed my friend's CDs to play Civ 4 and thought it was really cool. Recently I bought a copy of the Civ 4 complete edition for myself and it installed the other expansions fine but when it tried installing Colonization it said:

The setup has detected that version 1.01.000 of Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization is already installed.
This setup installs an earlier version of Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization (1.00).
You will have to uninstall the previous version before installing this version

Now the problem is I thought I had uninstalled it before and when I ran a search I couldn't find any Colonization files on my hard drive. Anyone know where the files might be hiding? Or do you know any solutions that could help me? I'm running Windows XP if that helps.

Check in Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. If you just deleted the files and folders then it wouldn't have "uninstalled" properly.

Has something been found to fix this? I've tried removing it from my computer and control panel add and remove, both. Still get the setup.exe error.

I've manually searched everywhere for this file (which is the patch), but the only place it shows up is add and remove programs
