I've noticed I'm not the only one having problems installing v1.61, but I haven't seen anyone getting the same error. Basically, InstallShield crashes right after starting, with the following error:
An error {-5006 : 0x80030005} has occurred while running the setup.
Please make sure you have finished running any previous setup and closed
other applications. If the error still occurs, contact your vendor: Firaxis Games (##IDS_PRODUCT_URL##)
The "Detail" button gives the following:
Error Code: -5006 : 0x80030005
Error Information:
>Kernel\CABFile.cpp (753)
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1167)
PAPP:Sid Meier's Civilization 4
PVENDOR:Firaxis Games (##IDS_PRODUCT_URL##)
PGUID:CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8
$11.0.0.28844PAK
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180
I started with the normal CD version of Civ4, patched to v1.52 through the auto-patch feature inside the program. The computer is running XP (on a Dell Latitude D610 with a Pentium M). To upgrade to v1.61, I first tried downloading the .EXE patch from Firaxis (I forgot about the internal update feature), and got the error above. Downloading the .ZIP file from 2K gave the same result. Ditto the internal update, once I remembered that.
I then tried to uninstall Civ4 entirely, to start over, and InstallShield crashed in exactly the same way, except the Firaxis/2K URL was properly listed. I manually uninstalled it, deleting all the files and all the registry keys I could find by searching for "Civilization" and "Civ4". Someone in another thread mentioned there being a hidden folder in "Applications and Settings", but I couldn't find that one.
After the manual uninstall, I reinstalled it, tried the auto-update, and got the same problems. I then tried manually uninstalling and reinstalling again, this time to the default directory (before, I'd had it installed in C:\Games\Civilization 4), and I'm still getting exactly the same problems.
Anyone have any ideas?
