Hi all,

I have BtS 3.19, lastest RAND (2018_11 rev1080), MSVC in place.

Rise of Mankind v2.90 in D:/games/Civ...
RAND in C/:My Documents...

On launching Rand I get the message like: "Can't load the program, missing dwmapi.dll, reinstalling the progrma may help", or sth to that tune.

Tried reinstalling, same old.
Any guesses?

You don't need Rise of Mankind to run RAND. I think it actually causes problems if you have both of them. RAND is a completely stand-alone mod.

You should have your RAND folder in Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods. That's where I put all of my mods.

Try that and see what happens.

Ok, but the installer prompts C:/documents and "highly recommends" this location...
IIt's still the same, no matter where I put it.

Could you please check where the .dll is located?

I keep my AND files in Documents\My Games\Beyond The Sword\MODS (and probably always have), if only because having your mods and saves not locked in Program Files is always a good idea.

I did a search on my computer (Windows 7) and I found 6 copies of that file: in Windows\System32, Windows\SysWOS64, and 4 copies in various subfolders of Windows\winsxs\.

I did not create the installer and don't use it at all, so I have no idea how it works. I did try moving the mod folder over to Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS and it loaded properly.

Can you load any other mod successfully?

Sure can - e.g. Rise of Mankind "vanilla" works fine in D:/Games... folder.

I managed to load RAND (AND2) thru Civ 4 interface > Load a mod option. And2-checker icon and .exe file don't work and keep demanding the .dll. (I didn't try that for wanting to keep to the recommendations of the autoinstall).

Eventually it works, but quite slowly on my old rig. even with graphic details at lowest possible.

Thanks for help, though !

Out of curiosity, what EXE file were you attempting to run? I may have misunderstood what exactly you were doing. I only ever run the Civ4 exe and launch mods from inside or use a desktop shortcut like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod="Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn". The updater and launcher are completely foreign to me, so if a question comes up about those, I personally can't do anything.

and2_checker.exe in the ROM - AND folder. the autoinstaller suggested using this file to update and run the mod.

That explains it, then. I thought you were talking about launching the mod itself from inside the main Civ4 game. Other people have reported so many unusual bugs that something like your error doesn't seem too implausible to me.
