Can't play game after latest update (steam error 53)

This evening a update for civ 5 came through Steam and it won't let me start the game. When I try to launch the game it comes up with an 'installing' box which gets to 99% before another prompt comes up saying that the "Steam servers are too busy (error 53)". I recall that this happened before a few weeks ago too when the last hotfix came through.

Anyone else having this problem? It looks like an issue that will plague us whenever we get a new hotfix.

Edit: It's working again now. So fickle...
