can't promote my mages

Ok, so i have like 10 mages ready to go archmage. I upgrade the first 2 and turn them into liches the next turn. I'm thinking, great, 4 more archmages coming right up. but..... nothing, i cant upgrade anymore mages, they're all like level 7-8 or so, why can't i upgrade? and on another note what are team units? i noticed that was under the lich description.

Do you have a city with mage guild nearby? I'm not sure it is required though.

ahh... so that is why liches rule? So you can make more archmages? I was wondering if that was what it was.

I've never made a lich, what is the path for that?

Archmages with Death III can cast Lichdom to become Liches (the same promotion also allows Summon Wraith)
