Can't run K-Mod!

Hello folks, has been a long time!

I wanted to go back into civ4 from my new laptop (win 10). Civ4 plays smooth, i tried playing with Next War and other mods, and it works fine.

But as i try to load K-Mod, nothing happens: it's like if i didn't even run the game.

I'm using a stock K-mod 1.44b.. i'm quite veteran and installed it plenty of times, i'm even i game developer myself, so no worries about that, but i have no clue why it doesnt run the mod! Any idea?

When you say "nothing happens", I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Are you opening the mod by selecting it from the "mods" menu in the game, or are you using a direct shortcut from the desktop?

If you are loading it from the mods menu, does it just load the game again without K-Mod? If you are using a direct shortcut, does Civ open at all? ie. do you see any kind of loading bar, or menu, or anything?

I have no idea what the problem is. My only suggestion is to download the new version (uploaded a few minutes ago); unzip it into the usual BtS mods folder as per the installation instructions, and try to load it from the mods menu inside the game.

I mean that i click on the game shortcut and literally nothing happens, same happens when i run the mod from the "load a mod" menu: it quits to desktop and, instead to load the mod, nothing happens, just stays there.
This also happens with the newer version. Other mods load fine. BTW i've played perfectly on my desktop, the problem only occurs on the laptop, really loving the new update!

Ok I've still got no good ideas about what the problem might be. The only ideas I have are things that I'm sure you already know about and have probably checked a bunch of times; such as
  • Beyond the Sword installed properly, with no edited core files.
  • Latest official Beyond the Sword patch installed
  • Mod unzipped to the correct location in the BtS mods folder (either in the game's directory or in your "my games" folder should work).
  • No bogus or edited files in the K-Mod directory.

It's probably a good idea to completely delete the K-Mod directory before reinstalling or upgrading, just to be sure that there isn't something broken lurking in the old directory. And if you do this, try running K-Mod again before you actually reinstall it - just to be sure that you really have deleted it! (It might be in more than one place.)

So... I have no solution so far.

I think the best path forward would be for you to try launching the game with the debug version of the dll instead of the release version. So, please download the dll that I'm attaching to this post, and use it to replace the normal K-Mod dll. (ie. /mods/K-Mod/assets/CvGameCoreDLL.dll )

The debug version will usually pop up some kind of error message before it crashes. With any luck, that will give us a hint as to what the problem is.

By the way, are you using the Steam version or the non-Steam version of BtS? (I've tested on both, and I don't think it should matter; but any information could be useful.)

Also, I presume that you aren't trying to run it on a Mac version; I'm near certain that won't work - because it won't read the dll.

Hi Karadoc, sorry for the long delay since the last message! I still have the problem with my laptop, here's an overview with your question addressed:

Summary of the problem:
-Whenever i run the mod from a shortcut the game doesn't start, nothing happens. If i run it from the main menu, it just goes back to the desktop.
-This happens with every version of K-Mod, and every mod that incorporates K-Mod. All other mods run fine (I've also played with C2C).
-I'm using the non-Steam version of the game.
-I'm from an Aspire Nitro laptop with Windows 10, i5 core, Gtx 960m and 8 gb ram. The problem does not occur on my Desktop.
-BtS and K-Mod are installed properly, with latest 3.19 patch, and without editing any files

As i said, the mod works fine on my desktop (witch has windows 7 instead), using the very same game build and k-mod setup.
