Help! I'm playing BtS with the BUG mod and all the necessary patches. It works great, life is happy and, sooner or later, I WILL be victorious.

Then the power goes out (I BELIEVE I was between turns if that mattes; the computer was going through the other players' moves and I stepped away for a moment, so I'm not sure). The power was out for about three minutes. I turned the computer back on afterwards, everything else seems fine, but I can't get BtS to start up.

It gets to the Check XML task and goes non-responsive. Eventually, I get the dialog box telling me it's shutting down and asking if I want to send the error to Microsoft.

I'm using Windows XP. Stop laughing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this, or what may be missing.

Oh, PS, to make matters worse, my CD-ROM is busted, so reloading is not an option right now. (I know, busted CD ROM, using Windows XP...I probably just need a new computer...but until then, any ideas????)

Please and thank you!!

Try holding down the Shift key (at least I think that's the one) when loading so it doesn't use the cached XML information.

Nope. I tried that. I've also tried a variety of suggestions from the XML Sticky without much effect (although I did spend three or four days with my monitor stuck in 4-bit mode until I backed out of a driver that had been updated...evidently wrongly). I'm trying to update my audio driver but can't seem to find a reliable download of it anywhere. My driver is an Intel 82801 BA/BAM AC'97, dated 7/1/2001. Any thoughts where I can update this or, alternately, if this is even my problem (reading the XML sticky, it appears that audio drivers are the major cause of xml problems....)

Thanks again!!
