Just a quick question. I'm a noob playing Grigori with an Adventurer unit with 23/2 experience. But there is no upgrades available to me when I select the unit...

You mean you can't take any promotions? You need to upgrade the adventurer into a warrior, archer, adept, or horseman first. The adventurer has no unittype and can't take any promotions, just like a golem.

Thought I'd chuck my second noob question in the same thread... Why do all archery units (plus recon units I think - may be more besides) have two values for strength. E.g. an archer has 3/5. Its a while since I've played civ but I'm sure that wasn't in BTS. I'm guessing the second value is defensive strength.

Yes, that's right. A long time ago Kael decided to bring back the separate attack and defense strengths from Civ 3, so that's what you're seeing.

It exists on other units too. I.e. chariots are better in attack than defense, and you should always consider both values in appropriate situations.
