Hi, I have downloaded maps here many times and every time I try to play them I get a message saying it can't open the map because it is not a proper game map or whatever. Is there a step I am missing? I download the ZIP file, drag and drop it into my "scenarios" folder, then I try to choose the map as one of my choices of scenarios... right? But always the error...

Thanks in advance.

What version of Civ3 do you have? If you have the basic or vanilla version, you will only be able to read .bic files, while most maps posted are in .biq format for use with Conquests. Play the World uses the .bix file format. Check this map download, which I posted in .bic format and see if it works.

Otherwise, check the file format of the maps you are downloading. You can read .bic and .bix files with Conquest, but it does not go the other way.

Hi timerover - thanks for the reply, but your map does the same thing the other ones did that I tried. I unzip it, drag it into my "scenarios" file, and it looks fine. But when I try to play it, I get a message saying:

"Scenario Invalid! Could not open the scenario file. The file may be corrupt!" (all the others said that too.)

I knew about the file extension thing, and I have made the files .bic files, which my version uses, but that did not fix it for some reason. Does anyone know what would make the game call the map "invalid" and "corrupt"?

Thanks

The only thing that I can think of is that your version is not patched to the latest one. You might want to see about that. Is the game running the pregenerated scenarios okay? If you are on just straight Civ3, without Conquests or Play the World, I will post a couple of the scenarios from Civ3 Complete, and see if those work for you.
