You must increase your garrison and invest a minimum of 2 EP a year into a new Internal Security Service of the government. If the Angolan government fails to secure its own borders, there is no hope for stability in the region.

ococ: But 300 Greeks defeated 1 million persians. So why cant a Pontic army defeat the Russians?

ococ: But 300 Greeks defeated 1 million persians. So why cant a Pontic army defeat the Russians?

OOC: Because these Russians have tanks and planes and ships and artillery etc, etc, etc,

EDIT: And it was 300 Spartans on the last day that held them back. Before that it was several thousand assorted Greeks fighting in a battlefield about 30-50 feet wide. We would have been fighting across your entire country. And the 1 million Persians isn't 100% for certain. It could have been 250k, it could have been 50k, we're just don't know. A million man army before the 1700s was unheard of an ridiculously hard to achieve. The Spartans were better trained and better soldiers than the Persians. I meanwhile have the best and largest Army in the world. If I can beat the British, Americans, Brazilians, Poles, Hungarians and Georgians at the same time IN ONE YEAR, you didn't really stand much of a chance...

ooc: Tanks are no match for the Greek soldiers.

Dammit. If it had not be for the Turks, now I would have won.

Anyway, EQ can I rejoin as Tibet?
You're deluded about your nation's combat capabilities. Some fights are unwinnable. You picked an unwinnable fight. You could have had the lovechild of Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte and Julius Caesar commanding your forces and still lost handily.

We will do you what you request about the Security Service but we cannot increase our garrison since it is not only far too expensive for us, our income is needed to relieve our population from the new drought that has stricken Angola. Angola is a poor nation, it cannot secure its own borders as long as our economy is strangled by a total dependency upon Brazil for trade and income (that is taxes - from Brazilian companies in Angola, the only ones that exist by now).

From Portugal
To the PADA;

Now now, violence is not really the answer here, now is it? We fairly and evenly took Jamaica with little collateral damage (civilian death counts were lower than anticipated, what a pity), and seized a new naval base for ourselves. Given as we are peaceable people and our economy is hurting, we unwisely decided to attack Jamaica after selecting a list of close to two dozen targets and flipping a random coin to decide what to do. Jamaica itself won out, and we seized a new piece of land as peacefully as possible.

Now, given that there are undoubtedly better things that you could be doing, why does Jamaica matter so much? Portugese people are suffering from the economic slump that has been induced upon our nation, and the seizure of very little of ship building contracts that we have offered has not helped the economic situation at all to be quite frank. Given the economic slump, and the pathetic market for warships and arms that we might provide, we were seeking a base in order to set up better trade between ourselves and the New World. Jamaica, Cuba, and Honduras were asked to provide bases and leases on land to base out of in order to send our wares to the New World, but turned aside our contracts, and with the economic cascade currently going on, we found the only recourse of action to be invasion to restore our empire as it once was. We do not wish to fight the PADA, and will withdraw, but reparations we will have to default upon given the market morass we find ourselves in.

Do send offers of what to do with us, we wait with open ears.

We will put forth a motion in the Pan-American Democratic Accord to allow Angola membership in the trade arrangements therein, but in order to do so we must be promised that Brazilian companies will be afforded all first rights to new economic ventures in Angola. An agreement of this caliber would allow Angola to trade with PADA member states, but not conduct diplomacy with them or trade with states outside of PADA under the current dominion status.

We are glad you have decided enough, but it may be that more is required. It would be a pity if the PADA was forced to destroy what remains of Portugal.

In our eyes we are a part of Brazil, and do not even wish to conduct diplomacy. What we wish is to have the same economic freedom Brazilians enjoy. Right now the only market Angola is allowed to access to buy food, for example, is Brazil, and your corporations tend to charge us extra, knowing they can. There have been vast problems with Brazilian corporations that have taken complete control over our state's resources and what industry we have.

Now with the new drought this has hit us more than ever, coupled with the rebels, Angola is slowly failing.

A new economic deal, where Angola is allowed to look outside of Brazil for markets, just like Brazil is allowed, would aid our economy and help us deal with the drought more easily, and more cheaply. Of course we will always prefer to do business with those Brazilian corporations who respect Angola, and do not attempt to take over our resources or economy, but there is so much we can handle.

Another solution can be that Angola become a direct part of Brazil, and Angolans could enjoy all the rights held by Brazilian citizens.

The latter is not necessary at the current time. Brazil will see to it that Angola gets economic freedoms within PADA as experienced by Brazilians. All Angolans are considered to be Brazilian citizens.

You chide us with 'violence is not the answer' after you have already violently seized an entire nation? Do not insult our intelligence.

You have openly stated that it is a pity that civilian casualties were not higher. That is atrocious.

That you 'flipped a coin' demonstrates your irrationality and lack of planning. It also casts severe doubts on your suitability to lead a nation.

You have eminently demonstrated that you are not a peaceable people, given your recent invasion of Jamaica which we are presently discussing.

Jamaica matters because it is part of our Accord. We defend it on the principle that a brother defends a brother. We defend it on the principle that we are opposed to extracontinental involvement in the new world. We defend it on the principle that the large should not prey on the small.

The poor quality of your ships, and their corresponding lack of a market, is not an adequate justification for invading Jamaica.

You do not need a military base and an entire island surrounding it in order to trade with the new world.

Jamaica, Cuba and Honduras all rejected your offer because it was unappealing to them. This is their prerogative.

Your only recourse was not to go on a shortsighted and historically inaccurate campaign of 'Imperial Restoration'.

In conclusion, if you have the funds to send a navy across an ocean, a navy that miraculously went unnoticed as it maneuvered its way through the Caribbean, then you have the funds to pay reparations to Jamaica.

Terms for peace are currently under discussion in the PADA Social Group.

No, they didn't. The Greek's actually lost that battle. Greece did eventually win because of vastly superior tactics, but you had no such advantage. This isn't 500 BC.

Also, Turkey didn't let you pass because Turkey didn't want to even associate with you, considering the possible repercussions.

The past is past, and if you would like to hold that over us, I'm sure that Vinland has not done pretty events in it's past either. I do not insult your intelligence, but sparking a large war over the seizure of a tiny island in the Caribbean is rather small justification for war. Irregardless, we're already beginning withdrawl from the island as we speak.

Civilian casualties were not high, which was surprising as it was anticipated thousands would die from coastal bombardment and artillery strikes from artillery stationed at entrenched positions. I'm sure you and PADA, in any assault against Portugal or occupied Jamaica, will cause plenty of collateral damage if not moreso, while claiming that you are "liberating" while bombing cities with women, children, and the elderly.

Metaphorical flipping of the coin so to speak, we selected Jamaica as it represented a rather small target and was believed to be relatively apart from the rest of PADA.

Your talks of invasion do not paint yourselves as a peaceable nation either. But undoubtedly, any liberation of Jamaica or assault upon Portugal by "peaceful" nations of the Pan Atlantic Democratic Accord will be painted as peaceful by yourselves as people die in the streets, including the very civilians you may try to free.

Understandable enough on this point, and we recognize the sovereignty of the PADA as a whole.

Our economy suffers, and the lack of a market for our warships, which we have been more than happy to offer contracts for and provide, has caused a rather backwards slide of the market as a whole in Portugal. With no overseas holdings, and no markets to sell our prized warships to (which are not poor-quality, though Vinland is allowed to have it's own ideas and opinions independent of others), we have faced a cascade of stability and economic problems which have plagued the nation. We do not wish to slip quietly into the night without a resolution to at least attempt to expand and grow.

We would have been more than happy to have settled for a single military base with shipyards to provide warships to the PADA, but as it is with invasions, you either take the whole territory or pay for it in the end.

Indeed, it was the trio's perogative to decline our offer, and we would have been open to counter proposals, but the fact that they did not and instead shut us out was a slap to the face. At least going through the motions would have been good.

As it currently stands, Lisbon Group is currently withdrawing from Jamaica. Minimal collateral damage was inflicted upon Jamaica, very few killed in combat in terms of the civilian populace (military losses however are rather large, due to the heavy fighting), our objectives have been achieved, and our mission successful. At this point, we will begin ceding territory back to Jamaica as the withdrawl continues, but only under the condition that no counterattacks from partisans or broken units occurs, as it will only exacerbate the tensions that are currently rising.

Give us an offer and we'll here it.
