Capto Iugulum: Empires and Nations

To: Spain
From: United States of America

We find these terms to be more than acceptable; they, indeed, are to be tenants of diplomatic relations between any two civilized nations.

To: The World
From: Empire of Holy Spain

The current crisis with Hungary has made it clear that ambassadors are in the risk of losing their lives and their freedom if the nation they are an ambassador to is angered with the nation said ambassador represents. With this in mind, we would like to present a proposition to all the nations in the world, to prevent events like this from ever happening again:
  • The person of an ambassador and his staff will be considered sacrosanct by the nation they are presenting their credentials to.
  • The security of the ambassador and his staff shall be provided by the host nation or the embassy will be allowed to have its own protection.
  • In the event of an ambassador or a member of his staff committing a crime in the nation they are working at, the host nation may not prosecute them, although they may be expelled from the host nation.
  • In the event of an ambassador and/or a member of his staff being expelled, the host nation will provide them safe passage to either their nation or to a third neutral country, from where they may return back to their nation.
  • The immunity of the ambassador and staff shall be held even in times of war.
This is only a list of suggestions, and any nation willing to help us develop a better list of ideas will be welcome.
We hope that this is the first step towards all nations in the world being able to have healthy diplomatic relationships between all of them.

We of course agree to these conditions.

From: Poland

A country would have to be insane not to want this. Poland will help you in this matter.

The Roman Empire agrees with the Spanish ideas except when spying is clear and without doubt. If you are caught completely red handed spying in the Roman Empire we will take action. For all other situations we feel the Spanish idea is acceptable.

TO: Empire of Spain
FROM: Empire of Brazil

We agree that such terms should be universally accepted, and Brazil will adhere to them.

From: Swedish Empire
To: Brandenburg
CC: Hanover, Denmark

Hanover and Brandenburg, like all other nations, are obligated to abide by the treaties they sign. We demand that Hanover return to the League or reach some type of compromise which is acceptable to the involved parties. No assaults on Hanover's sovereignty by Brandenburg, which recognized its independence, will be permitted.

From Paris and Burgundy
To Brandenburg, Hanover, Denmark, Sweden

We agree with Sweden here. The Treaty that gives Hanover its legal existence also requires that Brandenburg does not invade Hanover; although Hanover may not leave the League, Brandenburg may by no means invade Hanover. If anyone takes action to restore the legal state of affairs, if must be the combined states of the Northern League, and not any single one of them acting alone.

To: The Northern League
From: Brandenburg

As Hanover has broken the treaty, the treaty is void to all parties.

To Spain
From Normandy

Obvious thing should be obvious. No need to agree to something so obvious... but then it is obvious that some nations aren't able to see such obvious things as we do, so we obviously agree to these tenants.

From: Swedish Empire
To: Brandenburg
CC: All Concerned Parties

As a signatory of the treaty, Brandenburg will continue to acknowledge its obligation to recognize Hanover's sovereignty, or measures will be taken to ensure that Hanover's position (in violation of the treaty) in no way causes a violation of the treaty by Brandenburg.

Austria is open for selection? there is no name besides it right now...

though I have a LOT f reading to do if I do end up taking them. and I'm not sure I can actually fill Warmans shoes.. though it would be a challenge. hmm, better get reading..

To: The Northern League
From: Brandenburg

As Hanover has broken the treaty, the treaty is void to all parties.

On the contrary, it is necessary that the treaty should be maintained, and it is the League's collective responsibility as guarantors to determine when and how to collectively enforce the treaty.

@Terrance: The League is not ending and your continual OOC comments are incredibly annoying and almost invariably completely wrong. Please stop it.

@ Spryllino

You know, I am roleplaying Philip IV as an increasingly senile, sarcastic, sonovab*tch. That said, the behavior will soon change with the change of rulers. I try really hard to define my leader and then RP.

However, I do admit that some of my truely OOC comments are uncalled for, but for you to not just point at the recent ones but all of them prove that I have characterized Philip EXACTLY the way I wanted. Triumph for me. :) Thanks buddy.

To: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland
Fron: The Empire of Portugal

We would also like to applaud Britain on her choice of stance in this crisis. Another thing, it would be prudent to best decide what the best solution for dividing New Zealand is before our respective colonists clash over territory and resources.

Yeah, apologies to thsoe who have sent questions and diplomacy. Been really busy with Christmas and real life stuff this week. Too much time taken up with shopping and doctors, so I'm going to push the deadline back to next Tuesday. I'll try to get on to send response to diplomacy tomorrow afternoon.

@EQ, seeing that the deadline has been pushed back, I have various questions (and diplo) that it would be convenient to have answered before sending orders (which were 3/4 completed before the delaying of the deadline).

If this is at all possible, thanks in advance.

We would like to station troops and warships in Tuscany to help thwart an attack from Savoy-Milan and protect our trade interests. We will not fight Savoy-Milan unless they attempt to invade Tuscany. If you accept, we will send them post-haste.

To: Panama, New Granada
From: United States of America

As you have failed to respond to our earlier diplomatic warnings, we assume that you have no interest in compliance. Therefore, the United States, acting in conjunction with the Empire of Brazil, will be blockading your nations until Panama allows for the demanded plebiscite and New Granada ceases their invasion of Panama.
