Cassini is in Orbit!!!!

I've been following this for a while, this is really exciting. I want to see what Titan holds in store for us!!!

The UK and Ireland still use the Imperial measurements (how that got to be called 'standard') is beyond me  .
Well, kind of. Officially we're metric, but distances and speed limits are in miles.
Kind of - in Ireland, officiall distances are in km, but many older signs are still in miles. In a few months, we're going to change all our speed limits into km/h (which will be fun: you won't be obliged to change your odometer - cue lots of crashes as distracted drivers try mental arithmetic)

On topic: Go Cassini!

I'm very interested in astronomy (but didn't study it  ).
I want to say hi to Cassini (Hi!), and to quote Pink Floyd from their first song of their first full album : "Astronomy domine' " -

"
Lime and limpid green, a second scene
A fight between the blue you once knew.
Floating down, the sound resounds
Around the icy waters underground.
Jupiter and Saturn, Oberon, Miranda and Titania.
Neptune, Titan, Stars can frighten.
"

when they launched the second mars lander the person who made it set up the program to measur in metric system while the person setting up the program to send orders and signals from here on earth set that up to measure standard measurements this is why the thing went slamming into the martian surface WOW and these ppl are suppose to be ROCKET SCIENTISTS got to an idiot to be a rocket scientist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, that's not entirely accurate. They DID remember to convert from metric to standard before they sent the orders, but they didn't round to enough decimals. Rounding error (the difference between .023 and 0.23333) sent the lander to its doom.

Anyway, I love the photos of the shepherd moons! :goodjob:

its cause us americans are to lazy to say Imperial measurements as its just easy to say standard

Wow, 4 years of hard data pouring in. That recording of Saturns 'greeting' is pretty creepy. Sounds like they got it from a bad sci fi movie from the 50s.

Uh? Where did you get the recording? I can't find any on their site

Interesting, I cant find it either. Youd think lots of people would want to listen to it online. The recording is of the 'bow shock' region, where the solar wind meets Saturns magnetic field, sounds really cool. They played it at one of the press conferences and Ive heard it on BBC radio too. They'll eventually stream it from one of the mission sites, or maybe on Space.com (I assume).
