Most people 18 and under use it without thinking. It's always been like that and will continue to be that way. It's no different today than it was in the '60s, or than it will be in 2060.

Noone uses it casually we all have a profound passion for whatever we love.

I LOVE my Ti89, everybody LOVES me, Micheal Jackson LOVES little boys, I LOVE the look on peoples's faces right before I run them over with a dragline.

There is no casual usage, only you underestimating the amount we really deeply care for these things.

I agree that overuse dilutes it's meaning.

Darling I love you : I love pizza.

It's the same thing with "unique" and "awesome" among others. Of course langauge changes- but what word do we use now to describe something that is awesome that will distinguish it from say- an impressive sporting performance?

I doubt you feel an emotional yearning for your calculator. If you do, I advise getting out more ;)
Have you ever used a Ti89?

If you haven't you can not judge me!

The Ti89 is one of the closest things to my level of Perfection

Perhaps, but you still haven't had enough experience, if your calculator gave you a 5 on the AP calc test, you.d love it too.

I'd probobly would have still gotten the five, but it's the teamwork and the commradery! We wer functioning as one, the Perfect being of pure and applied logic, it was beautiful.

But this is getting WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off-topic and I'm putting an end to this at the end of this sentance, the sentance right her; period.

Yes, the word is used far too much, mostly because 95% of people don't know what it means (or how serious it is) and 95% of the other 5% will use the word to get laid anyways...

If a *calculator* gave you a good mark it means either:
1) You suck at math
2) You're good at using a calculator, but you suck at math.
3) You're so freaken lazy you can't do basic calculus by hand, so you use a TI-89, and you suck at math.

I recall from my school years that most girls complained about there being so few nice guys, but never dated the ones they knew. Instead they dated the jerks that would lie to them. The L-word figures promenently in there somewhere. Like "I'm sorry" it is easily cheapened, but it needs at least some use to stay lubricated.

Actually it's because although I'm wicked with calculus, I think slower. Tests that measure the speed in which you do math are not equivilant to the mathematical ability. For example, we had a project that only I could do the tricky parts on, even though I took much more class time and home time to do it. I can do basic calculus by hand but it takes awhile to churn it out.

The word is severely overused. It is used all the time to describe different emotions--or irrelevant actions--in place of more accurate phrases.

In general terms, I am guilty of the same thing. I very freely say "I love pizza" or "I love David Bowie", but strictly speaking, the word is too strong for these concepts. "I like pizza a lot" and "I'm quite fond of David Bowie's music" would describe the situations more accurately. I never use the word, however, to describe infatuation or sexual intercourse. These are the misuses that annoy me the most, and I make sure never to be guilty of them myself.

The word 'love' has become overused by people who do not look for other options. It was for this very reason that we came up with the thesaurus (sp?).

eg. "I love my girlfriend." I can say this and mean it from the bottom of my heart. No other words can convey my feelings for her like 'love'.

"I love pizza." While I may like pizza, I can't justify the use of the word 'love' in this instance. A better susbtitute would be 'crave, desire, want, need, enjoy, etc...'.

By misusing a powerful word like 'love' we dilute its meaning and render it impotent.

Too many people use it too often..until the point that the word has lost its meaning..
