Judging from past separatist fights in Spain, until eyes and testicles and more on the other side start being lost Catalonia's separatists are getting only more of the same. Learn with the basques, perhaps? What autonomy Catalonia has, it was offered by Madrid as a consequence of their fight.

Or cease playing at separatism and limit the damages.

You mean like Equatorial Guinea where Franco himself organized a referendum of independence and after losing it he sent Manuel Fraga to Malabo on October 12th, 1968 to sign the Francoist regime's official recognition of their independence?

If you think Catalonia is worth the same as Equatorial Guinea to Spain...
Franco just dumped the spanish colonies because he saw that they were indefensible against infiltration from the newly independent countries around. Catalonia exists within an EU that supports Spain against it. No help allowed for separatists from there. In fact I won't be surprised if Madrid soon manages to use the "violence!" argument successfully to have the exiled leaders arrested and delivered.

Throwing separatists into jail I consider extreme though. And counter productive.

Let them say their piece and ignore them.

Catalonia is the old Aragon from pre 1492. Not all off it but a good chunk.

Which is pretty silly and crazy like everything this guy has said since became president. For instance he plubicily supported the incidents and then launches catalan police against the protesters. Then said the protesters were indeed infiltrated antiindependentist agents. Wont end in jail like his predecessors but in a mental asylum.

Leaving my opinions about the whole Catalonia issue aside, I am not sure wether Torra is insane, a moron or just a jerk.

But throwing him to jail would be overreaction, just send the tanks in the problem must be resolved diplomatically.

Countries break up all the time. Better to do it peacefully or talk it out to see if it will work.

We've had two separatist movement here they never really went anywhere.

Torra is a total moron. Puigdemont put him there so he wouldnt be overshadowed but goodness me, he's probably the worst of all 132 Presidents of the Generalitat.

Torra is an irrelevant figure put there not to overshadow anyone that everytime he tries to say or do something is immidiately opposed by more than half if his own (if we can really call it his own considering what I just said) government. He is not a moron, he just lacks any authority even among his own ranks, which inevitably leads to him saying something only to have shortly thereafter his own government doing the opposite of what he just said and viceversa. Ridiculous and pathetic, I know, but ever since Puigdemont proclaimed his famous 8-second republic the average independentist has learnt not to listen to their own parties anymore as we have been witnessing these last few days. Right now political parties + institutions and independentist organizations + average independentist citizen happen to be completely parallel realities so it's quite hard to say what is people going to actually do despite whatever Torra says.

He wants to have a new referendum? Who's gonna fall for that? I'm not. I'm telling ya, this has to stop now. Let's do it when we're ready, if we are ever. Now he's just trying to stretch out his government for another year. The man should give up.

The Generalitat is doomed anyways so why celebrate elections to its presidency if it's going to disappear? Better die in a kamikaze fashion by celebrating another referendum.

LaLiga's FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid to be postponed due to the protests.
