Hi i have probably as stupid question asking for help i havent played Caveman to cosmos in a while i went to download the 44 version and all i got was 40.1 any help please to get version 44??

Here are the SVN client installation and download directions https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/c2c-svn-changelog.429816/
Unless you plan on developing, I use a SVN download folder directly in the Civ4 mod folder without problems and easier updating (\Civilization IV Complete\Civ4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos).

PS: I do have Civ4 installed outside of C:\Program Files.
PPS: With very large maps, I had better performance with the GOG version of Civ4 than the Steam version.

Is the release just through the SVN or is there an installer?

Any recs on what kind of setup to start a game with? I've found the AI in the past to be very lacklustre and unchallenging.

There are some settings that you want to avoid. The AI doesn't do well with Revolutions, Surround&Destroy, Start as Minor, and in general, any settings that restrict economic output in general. Also, both settings "Aggressive AI" and "Ruthless AI" weaken the AI, so you want to avoid that as well.

I think that you can also guide the AI somewhat by selecting a single victory condition, which would then lead to the AI favoring that direction strongly. But I'm not completely sure about that.

Other than that, I am not too sure about the other options, but perhaps someone else can add to that.

Any maps you would recommend in particular?
