Honestly that's about the time I kinda fell off the project myself and much for the same reason. I don't think I really ever quite wrapped my head around Git. But it was largely because that's also when I lost most of my modding time so it couldn't have come at a worse time for me to have to spend MORE time on it to try to understand how to get things done now. (on a side note, when did backspacing suddenly start eliminating entire words rather than just characters and how do I fix that???) It seemed for Toffer and Raxo to work out great for them but it really put me behind a learning curve that has become a barrier I just dont have time to familiarize myself through again. Funny how much I've been learning elsewhere and still can't seem to catch up here. That and the fact that at the same time, every WAY I learned to program came under fire and needed to be changed so now I don't even recognize my own work much. I never did have the time to review the constant refactoring that changed how I wrote things and as a result I slipped into dinosaurhood. I'd have to relearn a LOT to catch back up and sadly I have less and less time and less and less income and more and more increasing debt. Nearly started defaulting on the mortgage this month and while there are plans to dodge the trees, that's about the level I'm flying at right now.I could do git several years ago but I fell behind and never caught ack up. SVN was more familiar to me.
I get email notices on what Murdermesa is doing and I reply to them. But I had no idea he was banned from Civfanatics because of his username! DEI and WOKE platform managers are the pits!
um... yeah somewhere? Is the git version of C2C currently more up to date than the svn version?
The git repository direct downloaders to the SVN build: https://github.com/caveman2cosmos/Caveman2Cosmos
Any git download instructions?
What I do understand is that we don't commit to SVN anymore. That practice was ended years ago. SVN commits are pushed from git to SVN - modders MUST push to git changes. THEN some process later must be used to update the SVN to what the Git shows. Again, this is the part that @raxo2222 explained but I never did take part in doing so never really got a clear feel for how to DO.I discovered an omission to Coinage Civic The Trade Yield modifiers are missing as are the Yield Modifiers. Both of these sets were supposed to increase by 1 for all modifiers that are used for Metals Civic.
I tried to commit to the SVN but that is a no Go even after I updaed to the SVN to the latest Update version.
BUT I cannot do a commit to the Caveman2Cosmos SVN. Tells me my authorization failed try different user?
Apparently if u r not on Discord C2C you r forgotten.Damn. I was wondering why it stopped updating for so long.
Any instructions for players to pull the latest GitHub build to play? The GitHub Readme still tells you to use VPN instead.Sadly the reduced update speed is not due the svn not getting updated with the latest git changes but a lack of time by the few remaining developers.
every git commit has been pushed to svn within a day this year.
Looking at the git, i see text bugfixes, a sound made less loud, a single fix for dog promotions and a new building unlocked if you have prime timber nearby for this year
I think git works well if there are enough developers with the rights to accept merge requests.
For those that do not know git this is how it works:
There is one main set of code that is copied to svn that is the main branch and no one is allowed to directly commit into that.
anyone can make his own copy of that main branch and start making local changes into it and upload those changes without needing autorizasion from anyone
If someone wants the code in their branch to end up in the main one they make a request to do so.
Those are called merge request and this allows a second developer to check the code before it goes into the main branch
To see the current merge requests you can go to:

Well, Discord folks say that the GitHub and SVN builds have parity. Also, deploying GitHub's C2C build for playing appears to be a PITA compared to SVN . Every time there is an update, you have to compile DLLs, run some additional batch files, and keep a separate copy for compiling (no deploying to the mod folder directly).Any instructions for players to pull the latest GitHub build to play? Git isn't really FOR players to play from. For one thing, when you use the git version to play, it packs all the graphics into the fpns which are stored openly in individual files, builds the dll (so immediately creates OOS errors if you play in multiplayer) and so on. The SVN just takes a quick step to update from git to svn for a dev for players to then update their svn versions. As has been stated, you aren't getting many updates because not much work is BEING done ON the mod without Toffer and Raxo now. There's a few things murdermesa did and a larger project to clean up coding structure by flabbert, but simply nobody that is working ON the mod knows how to debug the mod so whether here or there debug requests are largely going unanswered either way. I just don't have time and barely know how to READ code the way it's being rewritten now, let alone how to safely update it all the way through.Any instructions for players to pull the latest GitHub build to play? This is why the SVN was retained. The main modders wanted GIT because it was supposed to be more easy to handle the code than SVN. But putting the product out for usage the SVN is way easier. This is why I let Github go. Though in hindsight I should've tried to keep up. BUT after reaching my 70's the desire to so went down hill fast. As I found just doing all the maintenance the property/Home demanded after years of being an employee demanded. Been in this house for going on 29 years. It was built by the man I bought it from in 1972. AND the start of the 2020 Decade major updates & cash expenditures Dramatically increased!. While Soc Sec & Pension have not. There is a saying going around the country side here, Pritzker & Biden need to study the inside of a prison cell for a long long time.Well, Discord folks say that the GitHub and SVN builds have parity. Just sayin' but if the GOP get their way you won't HAVE a soc sec OR health care coverage at all. The fact you have a paid off home is amazing - I truly fear for the wave of unemployable retirees that suddenly have no income at all and lose even the tiny rentals they have now on fixed incomes when those programs are removed. I've been waiting most of my life for any kind of affordable health care options and as I begin to fall further and further into unmedicated diabetic conditions it becomes clear I probably won't even have medicare there when I get old enough to warrant it and i'll probably just die an early death. I'm really not sure why anyone blames dems for this when the only reason any socialism such as medicare and ssi exists is because we push for it to stay. This is why the SVN was retained. Naw... people just want to take as full advantage of you as they can. Full stop. If they can't they go to India. They're happy to pay 30k for a cult of personality to con the crap out of them but try to provide a real service and all they have to do is keep stretching you further til your time is now worth less than minimum wage. What starts as 3k for a job that should take a few days or a week maybe ends up being a year's worth of half the week poured into their ongoing demands to keep from them chargebacking. I mean, sure, when they go overseas they can get knowledgeable slave minded people who are willing to take micromanaging so far as they can understand you, for some $5 an hr and since you don't know what you're doing, you don't realize they really don't either. But at least you get someone willing to bang at keys for what you can afford that way. Meanwhile those with more $ just hire a team and don't need anything anyhow.Building a business takes time for sure. And customer interaction and retention equals how satisfied they feel over the product.
