I know this is a pretty pointless question, but... what makes the Cedars of Lebenon different than any other forest?

Not a pointless question at all! According to CivIII Editor:

Forest:
1 food
2 shields
Road adds 1 commerce

LandMark Cedars of Lebanon:
1 Food
3 Shields
Road adds 2 commerce

Since the Phoenicians of "MP 1 Mesopotamia" are commercial, the Cedars should give their economy a hefty boost(?)

Lebanons was in Antiquity a vast forest.
Egyptians, not having wood, used to trade for the wood of this regions, that was excellents on top of that (ever see a cedar ?) and tried (often with success) to conquer it.

In fact, when you speak of Pharaonic Egypt, all theses regions WAS egyptians very often (You see a lot of Egyptian things in Liban-like regions. Even Jesus is only an adapted version of Horus). Libanese was always of a great interest for Egyptians.
