There was a decent number of semi big upsets and the top three were the guys who picked them. viva took Philly, Buffalo, Seattle, and Minny to win; bundle took Philly, Buffalo, SF, and Minny to win, and Tim took Philly, Buffalo, and New Orleans to win. Beyond that the big payouts for everybody (or most everybody) were Detroit (14/18), Washington (14/18), Pittsburgh (14/18), and CAR (14/18). This week was mostly just a lot of people getting the pick but not the spread right, and then some big upsets that only one or two people got. New England was the only one that really threw everybody for a loop.

That brings us in to the final standings. Owing to the large variance of total numbers of games picked, even among people who were here every week, I'm including another stat in the list: PPW, or points per week. This one works similarly to ERA in baseball - average number of points per game extrapolated over 16 games. Rankings are still going to be done based on overall points total, but I thought it would be nice to look at something that isn't a counting stat. Because classical only picked for one week, his PPW was left off.

So with that out of the way let's take a look at the final, ultimate big board!

Pos | Name | Points | PPW | Record
1 | Light Cleric | 278 | 17.58 | (121-36-96)
2 | vivalamexico | 265 | 17.23 | (119-27-110)
3 | caketastydelish | 260 | 18.82 | (113-34-74)
4 | madviking | 253 | 16.00 | (100-49-103)
5 | illram | 249 | 16.13 | (105-39-103)
6 | Timsup2nothin | 240 | 15.87 | (104-32-106)
7 | Owen Glyndwr | 237 | 16.42 | (97-43-91)
8 | IglooDude | 225 | 15.06 | (90-45-104)
9 | KMRblue1027 | 149 | 13.86 | (55-39-78)
10 | Azale | 84 | 17.45 | (38-8-31)
11 | classical_hero | 17 | - | (8-1-7)

Congratulations to our winner Light Cleric:

who was here every week and maintained the second highest average over the full 17 weeks. He snagged the lead as soon as Azale dropped out in week 6 and never really let go from there. Also notable are cake's insane 18 points per week average - it'll be interesting to see what happens if he starts from week 1 with the rest of us - and that Azale had a pretty good average going until he got bored and dropped out. Literally the worst. Also while spending all this time tabulating points per team I noticed a slight hiccup in viva's total. I forgot to count 2 points he got from a cincy game way back in week 2! So he gets 2 extra points for that. Didn't affect final standings so no harm no foul?

Here are some fun stats for everybody:
Player | Pet Team | Best Team | Homer Team
madviking | Chicago (0.22) | Philadelphia (0.72) | Tennessee (0/5)
Timsup2nothin | Oakland (0.23) | Philadelphia (0.85) | Tampa Bay (4/7)
Azale | Cleveland (0.11) | New York Giants (0.33) | Seattle (4/5)
illram | San Francisco (0.27) | New England (0.95) | New Orleans (2/12)
vivalamexico | Jacksonville (0.19) | Philadelphia (0.85) | Tennessee (2/6)
Owen Glyndwr | Jacksonville (0.13) | Cincinnati (0.85) | New Orleans (1/5)
Light Cleric | New Orleans (0.16) | Minnesota (0.81) | Jacksonville (2/5)
IglooDude | Miami (0.17) | Kansas City (0.63) | Chicago (2/6)
caketastydelish | Denver (0.13) | Cincinnati (0.79) | San Diego (3/5)
KMRblue1027 | Jacksonville (0.13) | New England (0.38) | Atlanta or Seattle (1/5)

Pet Team: For each player, which team did that player contribute to the highest proportion of all picks made for that team, percentage is included in parenthesis. So for example, Miami was picked 64 times in total by all players, and of those 64 picks, 11, or 17% were made by Igloo. Really it's a reflection of "which team that was kinda bad did you like a lot" because everybody picked good teams like NE, GB, CIN, CAR, and SEA at more or less the same rate, i.e. a lot. Most of them are pretty understandable - Tim liked Oakland, illram liked SF, Light Cleric liked NO, but some are a little funny - Azale dropped out before it was totally confirmed that Cleveland were a garbage team, viva and I liked Jacksonville (although SF was a very close second for me). Remember that the average is based on total picks, so people who weren't here for all the weeks will have a lower rate.

Best Team: This was originally going to be the team that contributed the largest portion of points awarded for each player, but that basically ended up being "which did you pick more often: cincy, carolina or new england? And that's kinda boring. So I changed this to "for which team did you convert points available into scored points at the highest value (points earned from team/(2*Ws of team)). Which still isn't great - if I was a bit more motivated I'd probably balance that against proportionate contribution to your points total or number of times you picked that team, but meh. You do it if it matters that much to you.

Homer Team: The team whose ratio of points awarded to times picked is lowest for each player. As in: which team was each player doggedly committed to despite all data telling them they weren't that good. The stat is listed in parenthesis as: points/times picked - you had to pick the team a minimum of five times for it to be counted.

In case y'all are interested here are the overall statistics of all players over 2 years:

I'd like to thank everybody once again for participating in this year's Pick'em league. I hope it was as fun for you guys to participate as it was for me to moderate, and I look forward to seeing all of you back for next year's season! Now go and enjoy the rest of the playoffs!

Thank you Owen! First, for doing all the work, and second, for stumbling in the final week so I could sweep triumphantly past you.

Yeah, I had a lot of fun. This was great and I look forward to do it next year from week 1 instead of week 3. Well done Owen and I can't complain about anything.

Man I fell ass-backwards into this victory but it counts :woohoo:

Thanks for running this, Owen, it was fun! Those stats were a good read. I'd forgotten how hard I'd been riding the Minnesota bandwagon.

Looking forward to next year!

This was great. Owen your end of season write up was a real treat. This was the most fun pick em I had all season including the money pick ems I was in, thanks to the statistical goodies at the end.

Woooo I lose!

Ditto everyone else, thanks Owen for running this, it was fun even despite my cratering in classic style at the end (and also at the beginning, and sporadically in the middle, but whatevs). The stats were particularly cool - next year (if you do this again), I'd suggest them at the halfway mark, too.

One question - why not take it into the playoffs, too?
