CFC Premium?

i was thinking that maybe TF could offer a service like CFCP were you could have unlimited Uploads (standard would be changed to x uploads a day/week/month) and the search utility would ALWAYS be enabled in CFCP

Most likely not going to happen. the bigggest reason is that the site rules say no eliteism or something along those lines, so it would be hypocritical of TF to do that (course TF can do whatever he wants )

While it has financial merit, I am afraid of what would happen next. IGN has done the same thing with their Insider service, offering basic board stuff like avatars and little games. Soon, however, it began to eat up the rest of the site. Nowadays you can't even navigate anywhere in the site without hitting the Insider "Subscribe now!" wall. Subscription service for CFC? No thanks.

Yeah, go premium!

First, just on limit on uploads for nonpaying members. Then no new registering members will be able to have avatars. Then nobody but premium members will have avatars. Then there will be submissive takeover ads that scream "SUSCRIBE NOW!".

It was a joke, I was sort of making fun of all the sites that have gone premium and have ruined it for all the free users. CivCube for example mentioned IGN. Somethingawful.com now requires an account (paying) to VIEW topics. The Sims Resource has gone berserk and now it's not even fun to go there unless you're a paying member.

I have to agree to that. I used to visit Sims Resource untill they have gone crazy with there stupid paying memebership. Premium sites can ruin things in the long run.

Don't turn CFC Premium. I would never pay for being a member of CFC. It's because it's free I am here.

BTW, I must admit that this is the greatest Civ site on the net, but paying for it would make me run away as fast as I could.

You really should set up a donation system and allow people to not have adverts. That is about the only thing I would ever pay for on a forum...

Exactly what I was thinking, this site is great the way it is. If you force us to pay money, then you will end many an addiction. I mean, whatever "life" I apparently have revolves around this site, like Earth around the Sun . . .

It would handicap the ordinary users esp those who do not have fast connections which covers many downunder given the still costly and problematic broadband services.

I don't mind the collection box but it seems only to increase the number of adverts displayed so it ends up like blackmail, "pay us or we make the forum unbrowsable"
