Joao II will own the New World.

Joao II will own the New World.

An awesome and elegantly terse observation, ArenaMan!

For Deity level, this would be quite similar to G-Major 82, except this challenge is on a Standard Map and G-Major 82 was on a Large Map. The Standard Map will be significantly easier, except the minimum Land Domination 56% with 10 Opponents rather than 51% with 13 Opponents. The higher Land Domination means a greater portion of the Old World must be Culturally controlled in addition to the entire New World via Settler spam and Great Artist "Bombs" (aka Great Works), but this Strategy still seems viable, especially with a slightly less crowded start (hopefully).

There were a number of Strategies described in the Thread for G-Major 82, including one for Joao II, that may be useful in Winning this Challenge.

Good Luck to All Challengers!

I attempted this with Joao on Monarch, but it seems to be am overly convoluted strategy. I played with Gandhi, Lincoln, Ramses, Mansa Musa,Toku and Genghis. I didn't want all peacemongers to keep the tech pace from moving too fast and pushing lots of culture, so I mixed it up a little bit. I also went with the minimum leader count to allow me more room to expand peacefully in the OW while beelining Optics. Genghis spawned on the other side of the OW, which was perfect, but Toku was right next to me. I made landfall in the New World in 500 AD, but was unable to completely cover it and left room for Gandhi and Lincoln to squeeze in a couple of cities each. This strategy can be incredibly effective running Caste/ Mercantilism/ Representation. My tech rate had ground to a halt while I was settling the NW, but once I got the economy back in the black with the FP, I was able to push 60+ beakers just from the free Merc specialist, and was able to push the cultural borders running extra artists while still getting the tech bonus from rep. However, Toku ended up DOWing shortly after I caught up in tech, so I had to switch to Nationalism. This also distracted me from picking the scattered islands that I needed to maximize my land area. I was able to nerf Toku and take all his good cities, but that still left me around 28% pop and 33% land area. I eventually got Sushi built and was putting together an SOD to go after Khan and make a run for the Dom win. However, by this point Gandhi was closing in on a cultural victory, so I went ahead and took the Diplo win after Ramses built the UN. It was my first ever Monarch win, so it wasn't a complete disappointment. :goodjob:

It does seem like Joao offers a unique way to approach the challenge, but I think a standard Immortal rush+ Sushi on a big and small map still yields a much simpler and earlier finish date.

Deity beaten on turn 280 :D

Dusted off Julius from Major 82, and plucked him back onto the Great Plains.
It has more land to settle than say pangea, but the awesome amount of cows let me spam praets like nothing else. I sailed over the CPU's unit count like Lebron James dunking on someone.

This is definitely easier on epic/standard. I'll post my thoughts on the game if it gets accepted later.

Oops, I missed the biggest difference between this Challenge at Deity level and G-Major 82. This Challenge must be played at Epic Speed and G-Major 82 was played at Normal Speed.
