<SORRY for double post...web hung : ( >

Hi all,
As I've posted before, I'm a bit of a noob, but I love this game :)

anyway, let's say I discover Hindu, I switch to Hinduism, all my folks are happy, all cities have Hinduism in them, etc etc. Now let's say I discover Taoism later on...is there any reason to switch?

I mean, do certian religions give different bonuses, or all they all basically the same (+1 smiley, etc.)?

It's mostly for the diplomatic advantages. Say Isabella is next door and you two have different religions. It would be wise to switch to her religion to gain an amazing trading partner and ally. Some civs have different attitudes toward different religions.

But as far as any one religion being different from another? Nope, Firaxis tried to avoid any controversy by making all religions equal in all respects, with the only "advantage" to the later founded religions being a free missionary for balance reasons.

All religions give the same bonuses. So, there's no real reason to switch unless Taoism somehow spreads to more of your civ than Hinduism... unlikely. And as Grawss mentioned, it can be a good diplomacy tool.

One minor exception: Different religions have different resources that double the production rate of their version of Catherdrials.
(Something to consider when "choose religions" is on.)
