in Win2k, is there a way to change the launch order of startup programs? I want MSN Messenger and all other internet programs to launch after Norton Internet Security is loaded.
You can check out the reg key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
This lists all the programs...which I assume are loaded in order. So reorganizing them should fix it. Of course Norton sucks and takes longer to load then most programs....so although you change the order, and Norton STARTS loading first, others may finish first.
But either way, it's probably better then what it is now.
I don't know in which the programs in the list start, but if it still doesn't work, you could either write a .bat-file starting them in the right order, or if that doesn't work either you could write a program that starts Norton, waits/sleeps for x seconds and then starts the other programs.
Instead of writing programs, change the preferences within Messenger so it doesnt start up with windows. Im assuming it offers that option, though maybe not because MS can be pretty anal.
They do have an option to turn the autostart off, but for some reason the program seemed to switch back to autostart because it started automatically a few more times after that (forcing me to shut off autostart again). Because of this first bad experience with messenger I've never really used it...
MSN has an option to start up on opening, but also to automatically connect, and open the main window when connected, which could look like the same thing.
