Charles Ives

What is your favorite piece by Charles Ives? His style is too experimental for many but I personally can really appreciate it.

I personally think this piece show's him quite well. Most composers don't even consider tuning the piano differently, but he was quite revolutionary.

Charles Ives was a genius. His stuff is so great because he wasn't a professional composer, who had to worry about pleasing patrons and customers and peers. He just wrote whatever he felt like in his spare time, because it made him happy.

I've never listened to him, but my school band is playing his Variations on America next year. The Nashville Symphony performed his Universe Symphony a few months ago too.

I'd never heard of him before, but he sounds an interesting character, and I liked this piece, though it must be rather hard to practise it. I bet he could have had a lot of fun with modern music software.

I've never listened to him, but my school band is playing his Variations on America next year.

It's both fun and amusing.
