You will have to enable the timestamp feature of the chat client. I've done so using mIRC under the Options->IRC->Messages screen & Trillian by Right-clicking in the chat window & selecting Options->TimeStamp->On. If you can't find it, ask next chat. It's a handy feature just to let you know how long you've been on too
